I'm hoping to get a new telescope in the near future. I once had one when I was a teenager, but it was a piddly, crappy thing that was difficult to align.
I'm hoping to get a more powerful one, hopefully computer-controlled.
I've always been enamored by the stars, and ever since I read about the
Eagle Nebula, I've been awestruck by the vastness of space and the unimaginable beauty that's out there. Pictures of galaxies, nebulae, and anything else cosmic have always been my most favorite of visual art. In my most humble opinion, I feel that objects like the
Andromeda Galaxy, the
Great Orion Nebula, and
Eta Carinae surpass the beauty, wonder, and emotional impact of any of mankind's greatest works of art.
The Hubble Telescope holds a dear spot in my heart because it has brought so much illumination to our world. I have dozens and dozens of images from not only the Hubble, but from other telescopes. Even just these digital images inspire such awe in me.... Seeing the images, I've always wanted to view nebulae and galaxies, planets and moons with my own two eyes, so to speak. I want to see the great Orion Nebula, and view the rings of Saturn with my own eyes.
I've never been able to afford a decent telescope, so I haven't been able to fulfill this dream of mine. But now with the inheritance I'm getting from my mom, I've promised myself that I would buy a telescope that will help me realize this.
I don't pretend to be overly knowledgeable of the field of astronomy; hell, I can only identify four constellations - Orion, the Dippers, and Cassiopeia.
Regardless, astronomy, cosmology, and the cosmos itself has been such a large part of my development and growth. My personality, my literary tastes, and even my spirituality have been greatly influenced by the things beyond Earth.
Sometimes, I even think I'd be more comfortable in space, with my heart and mind among the stars, swimming in the sea of infinity.
