Especially when I've slept like shit. Another long ass phone call last night, which was probably as pointless as any of the other long ass phone calls I've had to a certain someone. I get off the phone just feeling like I've been headbutting a brick wall for the duration of the call. Really not sure why I keep doing it... And then for some unknown fucking reason I was awake, must've been about 5am. GAY!!
In other news, its my soon to be brother in law's bucks night tonight, and I'm invited. W00t! Heading out for some beers after work, and then, wherever the night takes us, apparently... Hopefully I'll rediscover some of my social conversation skills, and not end up like I did last Thursday, when I was trying to talk to Lisha's friend Mel. Although it is probable that that situation was thru a combination of drunkenness and lack of conversation skills.
Seriously tho, what do people talk about? I don't watch TV, so I can't talk about any crappy tv shows, or the news, cos I don't pay any attention. I figure the world does what it does without needing my intervention. I can talk about computers, up to a level. I can discuss houses, and "the market" again, up to a point. Weather is always a last resort. Hopefully the people there will climb, which I can talk about a little.
Somehow, that got me thinking about the change in usage of the word "discrimination". I read a book recently, which had a discussion on the usage of the word, it was one of the coolest things I've read for ages. To sum it up, it said that in past times, discrimination referred to the ability to weigh up a decision, and make a choice based on the relative merits of each option. And to make a good choice. Hence you get the positive term "a man of discrimination".
These days, the word has only negative images associated, and there is no word with the same meaning, so we are left without a word to reflect the positive ability of making a decision. So people don't shy away from making decisions. We just wait for things to happen to us. Leave things too late, and decisions get made for you. And then you can say "Well, I had no choice".
Well, that ended up being a longer entry than I planned...
Enjoy, all those people finishing school forever, today.
