Let me start with the absolutely ridiculous weekend I just experienced. First, we won both the Argonads and Pink Lazor soccer games. First win for both teams, so that was cool. MODEST CONCERT on Sunday! Damn. Amazing. They played the best set I have ever heard from them AND Isaac Brock wasn't wasted. Which means the lyrics were perfectly delivered and his ramblings between songs were actually somewhat coherent. I stress somewhat. They played about half old and half new, a good mix. Doin' The Cockroach, Trailer Trash, Interstate 8, Dramamine, Paper Thin Walls and The Good Times Are Killing Me were all especially amazing. The show itself was enough to constitute a pretty damn good weekend for me, but events after the show just made my life. We walked around the back of the venue to the service entrance where everyone was loading up the truck, and somehow I, and only I, made it past the security detail with the poster I had just purchased and a pen. Everyone else is stuck waiting behind a fence with a security guard and I am now hanging around backstage with Modest Mouse, pretending to be important. I make it upstairs into a long, smoky room with lots of tables full of alcohol and people standing around looking cool. This girl helps me locate Isaac, who proceeds to sign my poster and chat for a few seconds about how us Northwest people are much cooler than everyone down here in SoCal. Or something along those lines. He has an enormous lisp, but that doesn't prevent him from being my hero. I mingled and ended up with three of their signatures on my poster, but I totally forgot to take a picture. My cellphone has a camera and the one time I need it, I completely forget it's there. Whatever, at least I wasn't a deer in the headlights. Isaac and I shook hands after a little bit and that was that. I strolled out past security and bragged to everyone about how cool I am. Jon, one of the guys I went with, ran into Isaac earlier at ATP, so now that we've both met him, the obvious next goal will be to smoke out with him after a show. We'll see how that goes. I doubt I'll ever have a better Modest show in my life, though I plan to see as many as possible. In a way it's annoying they've hit it huge, but it's definitely deserved. It was entertaining when they played Interstate 8 and I was one of maybe 15 people in the whole crowd who knew the words. And the 14 year old girl standing next to me who butchered the lyrics to Float On... Oh well. I miss Lonesome Crowded West sing-a-longs through Kirkland in Mookie's car with the guys. Haha. I might be coming home for this three day weekend coming up, that would be fun. Oh i'm tired with typing, so the rest of the update will have to wait. Peace.
