Hey hey hey hey heeeeeeeeeeeeeey!
I'm back! And alive! And feeling like it's 1 in the morning thanks to jet lag!
Europe was fantastic. Freaking fantastic. I mean, I love the US and all, and I don't think I would live permanantly anywhere else, but somewhere in Europe is a close second. I'm not going to elaborate about it all right now, because I want to do a nice entry with pictures and everything. But if you guys ever have the chance to go, then do it. Even with pictures, there's so much more.
And a side note about the French...
The tour guide I had- a very nice British lady named Sue- helped me understand the whole "France hates the US" issue, and a lot of it I experienced myself. So here's the deal. There are basically 2 kinds of French people: Parisians (people who live in Paris) and everyone else. Parisians are the often times snooty and stuck up people. Like, I ordered a crepe (in French) and the guy started making fun of me because I was trying to speak the language and my accent was weird. Not very nice. I bumped into a lady while riding the metro (subway) and said "Pardon moi," seemingly harmless, and she looks at me and laughs. Well fine then, I won't excuse myself when I smack you in the face! Now of course, there are nice Parisians as well, like a gentleman who worked the breakfasts in the hotel, who liked it when I attempted to communicate, or a shopkeeper who was so impressed that I asked how he was (in French) that he gave me a free key chain. But in general, Parisians really don't give a darn if you're lost and don't know anything, they just want you to get out of their way. And unfortunately, we have associated the Parisian view with the general view of France.
But French people that live in the country, now that's a different story. They're really nice and appreciate it whenever you try to speak French, regardless of the accent. But you don't really see CNN interviewing nice farmer Pierre now, do you? Trying to say that the French hate the US just because of what Paris says would be like judging the entire view of the US by New York City. And you know that that's not right.
I hope that settles a few things.
Hmmm, not much else going on. Went to a pre-op appointment with my doctor, I'm getting my wisdom teeth out Monday. He said that it should be a fairly easy operation, nothing out of the ordinary, but I'm still scared. There's so many things that could go wrong. So many. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
Aaaaand that's about it! Thanks Patrick for keeping track of my schedule, I smiled with the "Lindsay comes home today!" comment =) I hope all is well with everyone!
