Three young surrealist women holding in their arms the skins of an orchestra
Sam and I went to NGV's Salvador Dali exhibition after my lonely hour of uni today. It was spectacular...and really long, but in a good way. I've always known Dali for his surrealist pieces but the exhibition really enlightened me on the different phases the man went through and how his life and the time impacted his work. It was an aaamazing experience. While some of his paintings can be frightening/disturbing, I found his drawings and sketches extraordinary (and when I leaned in close enough, I could read his writing, in French). Just makes me wish I had that sort of skill and technique. Gah! I didn't know he drew so heavily from philosophy, psychology and science and how much he did outside of the realm of painting. And the recurrent themese, motifs, imagery- all very intriguing. ILU NGV. Their Winter Masterpieces series is a stroke of genius. I wish I hadn't missed that Guggenheim one a couple of years back. I plan to go to each one from now on.
