Virginia beach Animal control are being douchebags because the SPCA called them out in front of city council for running an abysmal operation. So relations between our 2 organzations have been icy. Just recently they failed to tell a man who called about his dog that the SPCA was here when he called looking for his dog and asked if there were any other places he could look. He ended up loosing his dog because we had it all along and adopted it to someone else when he didn't show up to pick him up after the mandatory waiting period.
I drafted a letter to send to the Mayor, City council and the chief of police who runs the animal control facility. If you could help me out by having as many concerned animal lovers that you can to either send this note or draft their own to demand that the employees of our municipal animal control not play politics and continue to protect the animals of Virginia Beach like they were hired to.
Last week a fellow had lost his 3 year old yellow lab and had called to the animal control facility every day to look for him. There is a mandated wait period before stray animals can be adopted. He asked the animal control officer he had talked to if there was anywhere else he could go and look, and they told him that there weren't. I am an adult volunteer at the Virginia Beach SPCA, and if anyone calls looking for a stray that isn't in our facility we will give them the number to animal control. For them to neglect to tell this man of our facility because of municipal politics and for him to loose his dog over it is unacceptable. Some of you might own pets and people who own pets know that they become like part of the family, and to loose them would be as traumatic as loosing one of your own children. Imagine the pain this person felt when we had to tell them that we saved their beloved family member, but they can't get it back because animal control wanted to play politics instead of protecting the animals like they were hired to do. I can't imagine what this family must be going through. As a tax paying citizen of the city of Virginia Beach I demand that you our elected officials do something about this before any more animals have to suffer. You'll be sure to hear from more people who agree with me.Concerened citizen,
