Today, I am formally postponing my old project indefinitely. Although I share no information with anyone, not even its existence, I have decided that my work on that piece has been far, far too slow. The problem is that the work seeks to answer the highest aspirations and longings of Man; it always has, and as I've grown over time, the project forces itself up higher with each piece of knowledge gained, or with each coin of wisdom forged, yet for a long while now, my insights consistently surpass my work, and the rush of ideas is so strong and unyielding that the work can only catch up to old insights, which I've disdained by the time the work reaches them. Similarly, the skills that the work demands from my hands is simply too vast and intricate. If I want to make any progress, I will have to let my expectations be dropped for a time and give my back a rest.
Hopefully, I will write a compendium for the work, and may share it with a select few people, though I most likely won't. I'll keep in mental storage until my beliefs have solidified enough, and then the old work will be a foundation for a new one.
In the meantime, I will focus my attention almost exclusively on "The Scholar of Pali," which has dominated my imagination and my spare moments, and when I tell people about it, they find it very funny and intriguing. Since it's a work more modest than the other one, I'll focus on this one for the time being. I'm hoping I'll have the whole story mapped out by the end of this year, and devise new story ideas next year.
