On Friday, I went out to our local grocery store, and while I was waiting to cross the street, I was passed by a car with MA license plate HCL HVL. It took me a minute, but I figured it out: "hacol havel" (הכל הבל) from Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) chapter 1 verse 2. So, cute plate. But no clue why someone might have it as their license plate.
This morning, while talking to
lcmlc, I figured it out: it's a vanity plate. And the most common translation of that verse is:
Vanity of vanities, said Koheleth; vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
