roadtrip 2007 - coachella

May 14, 2007 20:55

so the first day of the concert started with a mild hangover and WAY too much heat.  followed closely by hot arizona not showing up with coffee.  that, plus the other two items, i overlooked because, I WAS ON VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!  the normal morning routine up to friday was cigarette and coffee first thing.  instead, because there wasn't a long lineup at the showers, the morning started cigarette *or 3* and shower.  seriously, there is NOTHING better than taking an ice cold shower when it's 8am, and over 35 degrees.  i wasn't too hot for the majority of the morning because my hair was wet.  unfortunately, my hair was FRIED by friday night because of all the water and heat.  and i lost my sister's wicked corona hat.  didn't even make it into the concert before i lost it!

clean, cool, and smoking my face off, the next logical step when camping on a polo field, and being over 21 years of age, BEER GARDEN!!!  but, it was 9am, and the first day of the concert, so i opted out of drinking right away.  i managed to hold out until 11am.  breakie instead.  which was overpriced and awful!!!!  but, we had good company.  caitlin, arizona, and I asked two ladies if they would share their table, and low-and-behold, we found more canadians.  as it turns out, they weren't just canadians, but from victoria!!!  we spent the majority of the morning sitting, trying not to drink, finally giving up and drinking, drinking lots of water, chatting to canadians, sharing the slutty concert schedual, and staying cool.  the last one, the staying cool, became impossible by 1pm, so we decided in our infinate wisdom, to head into the concert.

brief stop at the atm and the will call ticket area and we were on our way!!!  the set up was amazing!!  seriously amazing.  they had domes, and misters, 3 beer gardens, not enough potties, and 5 stages.  plus two techno areas.  we went to the comedians of comedy first.  it was awesome.  and shaddy.  it was hilarious because at first, the whole tent was standing.  everyone standing.  and then the coordinator *?* of the comedians came out and spent at least 10 minutes trying to get everyone to sit down.  that was funny.  we saw i believe 4 comedians, i dunno who they were.  there was one lady, i'm sure scott will know who... she does those funny voices.  we spent the rest of the trip doing baby dinosaur calls because of her.

after the comedians, came satellite party.  yeah that was fucking amazing.  perry is even better live, more of a character then television can portray.  they played one janes song, but i've been sooo busy and it's been so long that i can't remember which one.  we hit up the food and shade after that.  seriously hot people.  i'm canadian.  i live on the COAST... 45 degrees is a little bit warm for my taste thank you!  we tried to take in stephen marley, but he was late to start, so we checked out some amy winehouse on our way to rufus wainwright.  rufus was good.  caitlin loved it, i enjoyed it... but it was hot.  he wasn't as cute in person as i remember, but that's cool because a.) he's caitlin's and b.) he's gay.

i tried to keep on trucking, oh how i tried.  but, i said no dice.  i missed interpol and bjork because i couldn't take it anymore, was exhausted from the heat, lack of sleep, and the drive there, so i called it a night and went to the tent.  i got a good 3 hours of sleep under my belt.  it was awesome.

caitlin woke me up when she came back, and we ended up staying awake well passed 3 in the morning shooting the shit with ben, matt and eric from wisconsin.  adam, jim, and james from new hampshire joined us eventually too.l  it was cool.  i love how at festivals there's such random conversations!!

saturday started at 7am without a shower.  but this time, this time we were smart.  again, i managed to hold off the drinking for a few hours, and this morning arizona did manage to bring coffee.  it was fantastic!!!!!  we went to the gardens again, skipped the shower in the morning.  we met the islanders again in the gazebo, and met MORE canadians, some americans that wished they were canadians, and a bunch of british people.  we caught some DJ heather, a little of Jack's Mannequin but they weren't so much my style.  I did however, listen to quite a bit of them while we were in the beer garden.  took in the Nightwatchman.  if you get a chance, check him out.  he's worth it.  plus, perry from satellite party joined him on the stage.  he's very much a revolutionary-type.  together, with one other, they sang this land is your land.  weird to hear the american version.  then we camped out at the main stage for the kings of leon and the arcade fire.  fantastic shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  the arcade fire is mind blowing live!  i checked out some blonde redhead, and RHCP.  i'm not even going to go into details about the peppers, except i love flea, and you missed an AMAZING show!!!!!!!!!!  we skipped the black keys and the rapture to shower instead.  and that shower was orgasmic.

saturday night we ended up drinking with the ppl from new hamphire.  i love tequila.  but, as it turns out, i am oblivious to the fact that hot arizona was interested in me for quite some time.  but i did end up calling it an early night from the party, and headed back to arizona's tent.  it would have been a very fun night, except some technical difficulties.  but, the night was not lost because, at 3 am, the LAPD sent a helicopter to tell all the "rioters" to return to their tents or they would be arrested.  i was concerned.  i mean, it's the LAPD!!!  but, no canadians died that night.

i woke up in arizona's tent, and headed home.  that morning, the first drink was down the hatch by 9am, and i was done on the heat.  i left the gardens to power nap in the sauna (aka tent) but ended up chillin with wisconsin and arizona in their tent for HOURS!  we didn't head into the concert until 3pm.  we caught explosions in the sky.  buy their disc.  i ended up after explosions, sleeping in the techno tent, and in the shade, before coming to and heading to willie nelson, placebo, a little paul van dyke, all of Lily Allen *i love lily*, tried to catch damien rice, but ended up catching manu chao, and rage.

there was drinking, smoking, toking, and others all weekend, minor details because EVERYBODY was doing something.  it was fantastic!!!!  a little bit hot, way more than warm, but fun.  if i were u, i would go next year.  i know i'll be there... i may try some scheming for cooler weather though....

next entries will be us heading home.
