Two big events to talk about today.
#1 - We will be moving soon. Hopefully when we go Thursday to pay our deposit the landlord will give us an exact move-in date. I am shooting for May 15 since we have our current digs until the 31st. That will give us a little over two weeks to get all of our stuff from one place to the other. This house is $25/month cheaper than we are currently paying (that makes it $750). Also, the house is actually insulated so it is safe to assume that our electricity bill won't be nearly as high as it is here. On a side note, our thermostat is all effed up right now and it won't cut off the a/c, so we are constantly having to get up and turn it on/off when we get hot/cold. This is ridiculous. Our power bill this past month was $236. We would love to just open the windows and enjoy this breeze, but our windows are all bolted shut - except the ones in Benjamin's room because apparently our landlords felt that the downstairs windows and the windows in the master bedroom were dangerous but not the one in the second bedroom where normal people put their children! /rant
Anyway, the really cool part about our new place is that it has this HUGE backyard and it is completely fenced in. Also, both doors leading outside are withing the aforementioned gate. This rocks because Benjamin is learning how to open doors. : /
#2 - Last Thursday, we were supposed to go meet the landlord and give her our deposit. Tim had work and we were going to go after he got off at about 2. Unfortunately he never made it to work because he had to bring me to the Emergency Room instead. See, I was carrying Benjamin down the stairs to put his shoes on him so we could bring Tim to work and then go run errands until he got off. My foot slipped on the top step and I did this crazy running-falling-slipping thing down the entire staircase. When I got close to the bottom, I realized that there was no way I was going to stop myself, so I tucked Ben into my chest and went at the front door (located about 4 feet from the foot of the stairs) football-style. I rammed into it with my forehead and my right knee slammed into the tile floor. Benjamin was screaming but he wasn't hurt at all. Actually, his head hit the door a little, but my hand was behind it so all he really did was bruise my fingers! Tim scooped me up and rushed me to the ER. En route we called his step-dad who came and picked up Ben from us at the hospital.
It was one of the scariest things in my life. First the feeling that I could not catch myself and that I could potentially hurt my son. I am very proud to say that I completely protected him from any harm. A+ mommy! Upon getting to the ER, the admission person asked me my SSN and I didn't know it. I mean, I knew it, but I couldn't get it out and say it. It was really weird. Like numbers were completely confusing to me. I was so upset, I was crying all over the place (which is very very very unlike me) and I was freaking out when the doctor shined the light in my eyes. It was completely surreal.
Come to find out, I had a concussion and just bruised my knee pretty bad. I had to go back to the doctor Monday and she said my head is healing up rather nicely but my knee is a little worse than we thought originally. Apparently the bruise is on my kneecap and the healing will take a lot longer than originally thought. She said basically to expect to be limping like an idiot for the next 3-5 weeks. On top of that, my back and neck started hurting really bad. After an exam and some x-rays, she decided that I sprained my back pretty bad and I can't lift anything over 10 pounds for the next 4-6 weeks. HELLO! I'm moving in a week and a half and my son weighs 28 pounds! I don't know what the hell I'm going to do. Tim suggested we buy a back brace but I don't think that is going to be a very comfortable idea in New Orleans in May. For those of you who don't know how that feels, I'll give you an idea, today when I got in my car after work, it was 102 degrees inside my car. AND ITS NOT EVEN SUMMER YET!
Yeah.
That was a lot.
