Hell week

Aug 12, 2009 07:01

I started to type out this long entry about how shitty last week was for me but then I decided that nobody wanted to read that long-winded version so here it is, broken down day by day.

Sunday, August 2:
I was getting off of work at 4am.  At 3:45 I get a call from security with a JPSO deputy in the office to ask me questions about one of the bartenders from swing shift.  He had been shot seven times in his driveway when he got home at 2:15 and was killed.  I was, as you can imagine, distraught.  Tim was one of the kindest people you could ever meet.  He was soft-spoken and loving and just and all-around good guy.
I got home at 6:30 (after a few drinks) and tried to get some sleep.  I was on the phone off and on with people from work - my manager to tell her the news, another detective to answer more questions, employees calling to confirm the bad news, etc.  Finally at 10-ish I was able to get to sleep.
At 11:30 my mom called me and told me to get up immediately and rush to Children's Hospital.  My niece (the cousin that was killed by a drunk driver on New Years of 2007's daughter) fell and hit her head.  She had bruising and swelling in her brain and some bleeding into her brain and spinal fluid.  The doctors weren't sure how bad it was but they knew it was pretty bad.  My mom told me to "come now, don't wait and get Tim to drive you."
We spent the rest of the day in the emergency room and then the ICU at Children's Hospital waiting to find out the extent of her injuries.  My poor grandmother had been carrying her down the stairs of her mom's trailer when my Maw-Maw tripped and fell down the stairs.  My Maw-Maw fractured her ankle.

Monday, August 3:
Spent the whole day at the hospital.  Bella finally woke up but the doctors were still not able to tell us whether or not she would have any permanent damage as a result of the fall.
I had to go into work on my usual night off to beging my 6-day work week because Corporate would be in town visiting and it is somehow MY responsibility to make sure everything is in order.

Tuesday, August 4:
Had to work a turn-around (got off at 8:30am and had to return for 4pm).  Bella was moved to her own room.  The doctors decide that there shouldn't be any long-term effects to her brain (thank GOD!  the only good thing all week).  Only had to work a half shift because my manager double scheduled me and a Lead so I cut out early.

Wednesday, August 5:
Bella got sent home today.  Tim and I did the bulk of our shopping for the party we had to cater for Friday night for 100+ people.  On the way to Sam's to get supplies, Benjamin threw up in his car seat. That night while I was at work he started with diarrhea.
When we got home from the store the iguana got out into the backyard.  She ran up into the neighbor's tree and hasn't been seen since.  Of course, it STORMED that night.  :(
5 hours of sleep.

Thursday, August 6:
Ben still had diarrhea but no fever so we decided not to rush him to the doctor.  Had to run around like a chicken with my head cut off to finish up the shopping for the banquet.  Thankfully Tim started the cooking while I was at work.  Unfortunately he burned the jambalaya so I had to start it all over again.  And re-buy the meat.  Thanks for cutting into our profits, honey.
Started a new program at work where we take food orders from the Bacarat pit and deliver the food to them.  Ran around like a mad woman all night at work.
Hints of an impending sinus infection start to creep up on me.
5 hours of sleep.

Friday, August 7:
More running around like crazy to get the bread and veggies that I could not buy early.  Plus had to make 150 finger sandwiches and the veggie, fruit and cheese trays.  Plus I had to get everything else in the pans to be delivered.  Delivered the food to Lafitte (about 30 25 minute drive from my house) then had to rush to work (20 minutes or so from the food drop-off) in afternoon traffic.
Full blown sinus infection misery all night at work.  My back started to cramp up and I was having trouble walking upright much less running around the boat all night.
More diarrhea from Benjamin.
More food delivery drama.  Every time I delivered one order one more person would decide they wanted something.  On top of that I had to take care of the beverage service on the boat and getting change for the bartenders and watching Boomers (the night-club in the casino).  Of course Boomers was hella busy so I had to run them change about 104905439 times throughout the night.
Ended up working a 9 1/2 hour shift.  Yay for not getting paid overtime because I'm salary.
4 hours of sleep.

Saturday, August 8:
Woke up bright and early for the bartender's funeral.  Ever attend a black Baptist funeral?  They last forever and they are the saddest funerals ever.  Broke my glasses on the way to the funeral.  Don't ask me how.  Got a run in my stockings before I even had them all the way on.
Ben's diarrhea got worse and he started to throw up.  On the phone off and on all day with the on-call nurse from his doctor's office about whether or not we should take him to the ER.
Bella started running a fever so she had to be rushed to the ER.  They said it was probably nothing but kept her over-night for observations.
Work was hell.  Back was still hurting and the sinus pressure was unbearable.

Sunday, August 9:
Finally have a day off this week.  Still had to come into work for about an hour to walk the Lead through the ordering/delivering process.

I generally handle stress very well, but last week was just too much to handle.  Ben's diarrhea finally stopped as of Monday but he still isn't eating as much as he normally does.  I really don't want to have to take him to the doctor but if his appetite doesn't return today I guess we'll have to bring him in.  I really need to see a doctor about my back and my sinuses but I just can't muster up the energy to schedule and keep an appointment.
I had to postpone my Gyno appt AGAIN this week because it was for Monday but I completely forgot about it.  Luckily I called them an hour before my appointment and they were already over-booked so I'm not being charged the $25 cancellation fee.

Coming back to work this week sucked because I am so far behind on my paperwork that I feel completely over-whelmed.  I am usually on top of things but after the hectic week I had last week I feel like I am drowning in a mess of unfinished work sitting on my desk.

I need a vacation.
