Misc. Art Dump

Mar 24, 2010 01:15

So, over the last...um...while, I haven't really been into any particular fandom and sadly this means my art production rate has dropped severely. *sigh* But, between Xmas, several recent B-days, and one doodles-turned-assignment, I have done a few. Thought I'd share:

Being the rather ridiculously poor grad student that I am, Xmas presents consisted predominantly of the homemade, in the shape of art.

For my parents, I did a pic of me and the sibs, being very...well...us:

For the bro and M, I did them with their two ridiculously adorable kitties (miss them so badly! The dorm doesn't allow cats *sniffle*):

For neechan, I did character/costume designs for two original characters, originally from her Shosetsu BangBang stories. The pics were really one part present, one part bribe to get her to write more of them (a successful bribe at that! W00t!).

Lastly, for takadainmate and cienna, I did a quick chibi!Cas for their Xmas card/present. Um...if you know them, the basket and mini-tentacle monster make sense (well...okay...not sure if "make sense" is entirely accurate, even if you do know them ^_- ...but um, their presence is at least understandable), otherwise..um...probably best not to ask...^_-

Moving on from Xmas (um...my darling dearest Ri-chan, your present has been *nearly* done for a while now, but I thought that, since it's late enough now, I could give it to you in person when you come in May?...err...yeah, I suck...But, after 20 plus years, you're probably used to it...^_-), this past month I attended two birthday parties, and continued the trend of art-as-gift...

First, there was pixiequeen10thk's party, where we went to see Avenue Q, so much fun! Followed by a pub visit and a glorious, fan-themed cake! As I met her originally through SGA and I know Rodney remains one of her all-time favorite characters, I did a Mcshep-themed card:

The following week was cienna's birthday, where we went for Japanese style karaoke, HOMG MISSED IT SO MUCH! And then a nice dinner. Decided to go for a rather new fandom for me (and her) and did the White Collar OT3. (I've had a thing for threesomes for a while in various fandoms, but this one...I swear, it's practically cannon! ^__^)

Apart from gifts, most of my art, since I started my Masters program, has been in the form of doodles. Lots and lots and lots. Most of them I haven't bothered to scan as they're all over the place in quality and detail, but these ones sorta...turned into an assignment.

See, during one of my classes, I was at a loss for what to draw, and started chibifying my classmates. And well...some of them noticed. And liked them (and demanded to be drawn, in Azar's case, as he was sitting next to me, looking over my shoulder from the start). For this class, it so happened that we have this short, ~2000 word assignment that's supposed to be a rather free-form diary of sorts, that touches in some way on 'audiences' and our experience as or with them. (The class is titled "Rethinking Audiences", so...well...) Anyways, after class, as several of the other students wandered over to see the sketches, they suggested I use them for the assignment, commenting on their reactions and responses to the drawings, and my experience as having unwittingly created an "audience" (no one was really suppose to see them, oops). The professor liked the idea as well, so I wound up drawing the rest of the class and the two professors, and putting them all up on facebook, where the few students not in the class but in the department (it's fairly small, and most of the classes have a large overlap) requested I draw them as well. So, class chibis:

As with any of my art, C & C is always very welcome and appreciated.
