You'd think that, at this point in my life, I would know better than to go to the library. Certainly not on a weekend when I have so blasted much to do. (whine) I really DID need that copy of the "King's Comissioners" for a math lesson coming up this friday....
But I most certainly did NOT need the beginning of a series by Hilari Bell, "Fall of a Kingdom", nor did I need Shannon Hale's "The Goose Girl." Now I sit at the end of the weekend, with a mountain of work, and not much to show for today but two books read.
They were both quite good, but that's beside the point. Hilari Bell spend 16 years writing books, and getting none of them published. About 5 years ago, she got a publisher, and all her books have been churning out like water through a dam's spillway. It's been great. I've enjoyed all the ones I've grabbed hold of so far. Shannon Hale's book has been on my to-read list for quite some time. I'm glad I finally picked it up. Quite a satisifying tale, though rather bloody in bits. It was quite exciting to learn that in the years I've been dragging my heels to get to it, she's written a sequel and a third book's on the way.
Sigh. Math planning calls. Good thing I have that "King's Comissioner" book.
NEWSFLASH FOR THOSE WHO CARE: Megan Whalen Turner's third book in the Thief series is coming out in Winter 2006! Whoo-hoo! Be still, my beating heart!
And guess what else -- the third book in the Bartimaeus trilogy is coming out at the end of December. Lots to look forward to this winter!
