2nd Ave

As many resident New Yorkers and Westchester residents know, the New York city subway is planning on completing the 2nd Ave Subway line. This is a subway line having been planned since 1919 and it's completion has been started and stopped many times before in the past. So my question is, why now? Why is it the Metro authority of New York chose to start production on this controversial line now? Most Magic-Conspiracy Theory nuts accept the world will end in some fashion by the year 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar. So why is this subway line projected to be completed by the year 2013?

I believe the world will end by the year 2012. This Apocalypse may not be atomic in nature, it may not mean that we all end our lives in a planet-wide suicide by that time, but one way or another this planet is fucked. My main theory is that the current CO2 emission is what is going to lead to our eventual extinction. We're going to drown or drought ourselves to death and if not that, then the polar ice caps melting will lead to some other disaster to our frail ecosystem (the irony that I'm saying all of this on a computer, thereby increasing the CO2 emission is not lost on me). So, if we don't kill ourselves, which seems highly-unlikely, what will happen is a major rearrangement of either A. Human Society or B. A "Lower" species, i.e. cockroaches or whales or crabs or something.

So, 2012, we're doomed. But they've started construction on this subway line, that completes a year after my Apocalypse. Now, I don't have a monopoly on this idea of a 2012 Apocalypse, this idea has been around ever since the Mayans invented their calendar (in fact, I'm pretty sure I stole this idea from Grant Morrison) and as popular as any other Apocalyptic idea. So it wouldn't seem that strange to see some superstitious Fatcat in a position of power to have some sort of influence over the forces of the MTA, to force this Subway Line to be constructed, especially to have it at least partly constructed by the year 2012. Then using their considerable pull to place some sort of item of power, manufacturing a design in this underground train system.

Here's what the subway for lower Manhattan looks like today, up to 125 street (the projected end of the line for the Q and T) today, without the addition of this line.

And these are the areas currently unserviced. The areas with black stripes are those the line will benefit.

And this is the line put into perspective, station for station. The Black line represents the T subway line, a.k.a. the 2nd Ave Subway Line, and the White Line represents the Q which will intersect with the T. Individual stations are indicated by dots, white dots for the black line, no dots for the Q since it's an Express.

Now, using this new system, you could come up with any manner of designs. Pentagrams, McDonald's Arches, Cartoon Characters, etc. New York City has one of the most extensive subway systems in the world, it wouldn't be new (or even shocking) to come out with a "Sinister Design".
Here's a pentagram I drew up real quick:

So we know that a design can definitely be built out of this new system, but a pentagram can just as easily be built using the old system:

So that's not my question. MY question is, What are they making? You can build literally anything out of the MTA, I haven't even used anything outside of Manhattan (or beyond Central Park). Hell, I haven't even used Westchester County and/or the Connecticut Rail System, or THE BUS SYSTEM. All these patterns, all these circles these things keep going in...What does it add up to? Or maybe the "Powers That Be" are simply trying to build a unified flood gate system for their uptown apartments, drowning out Alphabet City and all the common riff-raff once the Great Floods begin. Whatever that answer may be, I've resolved to forget all of it.

We're all just a bunch of atoms.
