I have a sneaking suspicion that this game began its life as Dark Cloud 3. There are just so many common elements it has with the Dark Cloud series, beyond what you would expect from the same team making two games.
It has:
-Stat up items that look exactly the same as the weapons sythesis items in Dark Cloud 2.
-A bug catching and training system, as well as a tournament, which seems to be very similar to the fish races in DC2.
-The same core battle system (a main weapon used with X and a secondary long range weapon used with square.) It's much improved, though.
It's also different in a lot of ways and it doesn't have the city building elements that I loved so much from Dark Cloud, or the randomized dungeons. (Nor the annoying golf. >=[) But its cinematics and story telling are excellent. I'm not a graphics whore, but I appreciate a well-told story. Rogue Galaxy's story (as far as I can tell in the first three hours of the game) is told very well through its cutscenes.

Also, I seem to have a three day weekend, thanks to Easter. Hurrah! o_o I can't remember the last time I even had a regular weekend, nevermind a three day one.
