Those crazy diorama kids have inspired me to try one of my own. First there was
laurelwood's awesome
A Quiet Evening at Home, in which a cute little Wormtail skulks, and Snape is found to be a fan of The Joy of Sex. Then there was
tofty's wonderfully monochromatic
HBP at home which features foamcore dormer windows and Gorey-print wallpaper. (And
amelia_eve, I hope I didn't miss it if you did one already.)
Title: Diorama: Classroom Eleven
Fandom: Harry Potter
Subject: Firenze's Divination classroom
Media: found cardboard box, construction paper, cardstock, tissue paper, markers, colored pencils, correction fluid, tape, Kodak Z740, Gimp (for a little color correction)
Notes: I remember making a pinhole diorama as a child, and I tried googling for pictures to refresh my memory. But with the exception of panoramic sugar eggs for Easter, I couldn't find any. Does anyone else remember making one? They're a little like viewmasters or kaleidoscopes, in that the enclosed space and the perspective and the limited amount of light enhance the 3-D effect. I actually finished this weeks ago, but never posted about it because I was plagued by sloth and by new software and by the most difficult photoshoot ever.
"The classroom floor had become springily mossy and trees were growing out of it; their leafy branches fanned across the ceiling and windows, so that the room was full of slanting shafts of soft, dappled, green light." - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter Twenty-Seven

Some behind-the-scenes pics:
Preliminary mock-up:
There are stars on the ceiling and upper walls, but I couldn't get them to show up in the photographs. Same for the stones on the walls; I thought they'd be more visible but the angles were too tight. The hills are ramped up with little paper easels, and the tree branches are attached with paper spacers.
