HP Art: Flesh-Eating Slugs

Oct 17, 2005 13:22

My love for ArtRage doesn't appear to have abated. ArtRage, Photoshop. 700x500px, 98k.

'"I was lookin' fer a Flesh-Eatin' Slug Repellent," growled Hagrid. "They're ruinin' the school cabbages."'
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter Four

Two things, wildly disparate and not at all HP-related, kept running through my mind as I was painting this: One, The Celery Stalks at Midnight, whose plot I've long since forgotten, but whose title is rather more memorable.

Two, Rita Dove's "The Secret Garden", one of my favorite poems, in which "the cauliflower thinks of her pale, plump children / and turns greenish-white in a light like the ocean's."

ETA: It didn't occur to me until I was posting that the darkness of this piece is a potential problem. It's in that scary, dim place where differences in monitors make huge differences in image quality. The lovely folks over at hp_details gave me input on it, and opinion seems split: it's ok on some monitors, but too dark on others.

So, here's a link to a slightly brighter version.
