Being a parent has caused me to change how I view communication. It has brought me think, "How might this be taken to an illogical extreme?" and, "Can my words be repeated to me, causing me any discomfort?" ("Is there any wiggle room in what I just said?" often accompanies that thought)

Patrick, my son, is quite demanding. He gets frustrated with rules and demands to make his own, and tries to change the rules set on him by his mother and me.

This morning, Patrick was demanding that I stop making breakfast for his sleeping mother, and play his game, his way. I told him, "No" in varying methods, until I eventually told him to go to his room.

He then began shouting orders and demands from behind a locked door.

So now I'm wondering if this trend continues, will he be the despot of some tiny, third-world country?

And how hard will it be to get him through airport security so he can spend Christmas with us every year?
