Playing House

WHO: Salvador, Radames-NPC
WHAT: Sadie comes over to Redemption and partakes in bedtime rituals. She occasionally says the wrong thing too.

Early evening, on a friday, and what's a single father to do? He sits on the floor, chatting with his son. "You have the yellow marker. Taking the cap off. Good job. Going to color? Alright. Yellow circle. Circle."

Sadie skips into the kin safehouse singing off tune. "Sorry I showed up at your party. Sorry I drank up all the Bacardi. Sorry I puked up on your bedspread..." It is then that she becomes aware of others in the house. A blush flits across her upper cheeks as she clears her throat and smiles.

Salvador looked up at the singing, chatter falling away. There's a smirk from the kin, and a gentle nod of his head, before he turns back to the boy. Parental eyes spot a tiny hand rub at a tiny eye. "Adam getting sleepy," asks Daddy. "No," says the child, shaking his head vigorously. "Yes," Daddy insists, nodding. "Sleepy. Clean up," Daddy prompts.

Sadie comes over to the duo of father and son. Her eyes are bright and sparkling as she sees the kin. "Well hello there Superdad and Superkid." Her soft voice carries as she moves to crouch down to see what is being drawn.

"No," the boy exclaims, crushing the yellow marker to his chest. Salvador sighs with a touch of fatigue, looking up and over at Sadie. "Hello," he replies, coice carrying a touch of dull weight. "How are you," he asks while the toddler goes back to coloring.

Sadie smiles warmly and then looks towards the boy. "That is a very beautiful picture you are making. We should hang it on the fridge, do you want to do that?" Then she looks back towards Salvador and notes the tiredness. "Oh I'm just ducky. Quack. Quack. How about you?"

Giving up and tryingto coax the toddler toward a bath, Salvador leans back again the sofa, elbow on the cushions near Sadie. "Peaches 'n cream, darlin'," he drawls lightly while Adam lifts the picture up to show Sadie before putting it down and moving to recap the yellow.

Sadie smiles towards Salvador. "You don't look very peachy or very creamy." She shrugs her shoulders. "Do you get many people that ask to eat you?" Her attention then flits towards Adam. She moves her own fingers to put the recapped yellow marker in it's box. The Walker kin unbends her knees to stand up, of course she only goes five feet and two inches from the floor. "Come on, Adam, let's go put it on the fridge so /everyone/ can enjoy it."

"No," comes the tiny voiced reply, letting the yellow marker go to fish out the brown one from the box. He works on uncapping that one while Salvador's eyes flit briefly to him before returning to Sadie. "Ask? No. Threaten... Jury's out."

"Is no your most favorite word?" Sadie doesn't seem a bit put off by the toddler and his resolution to stay awake. "I mean we could go upstairs and have a bath." She then looks towards Salvador flashing her pearly whites. "You'd want to come take a bath with me, right Daddy?"

"No," replies the child, the sound almost a question. All without looking up, brown marker intently scribbling away. Salvador for his part almost has it in him to blush, cheeks hinting at wanting to darken.

Sadie looks at Salvador, she doesn't realize how it sounds. "Well would you want to go if Daddy and I went upstairs? We could get you all snuggled in and read a story, then I'd make sure that Daddy got his bath and story too."

Salvador's eyebrows begin to creep away from his eyes as Sadie just keeps on going. "No," the boy repeats, dropping the markers and pushing himself to standing.

Sadie looks towards the boy as he stands. She moves in to recap the marker and put them away. "Well what would you like to do?" Her eyes are completely on the child now.

"No," the child states again, little feet moving into a run. Run run RUN away. And giggles start. Salvador sighs lightly, shifting to reach for the markers too. "Adam," he starts, tone warning.

Sadie lifts her brows towards Salvador. "He wants to play. Don't you want to play too? There are so many games we could be playing." Sadie tips her head to that and then she grins and heads off in a semi-fast walk in the direction of the kid. "If you catch everyone you win."

A squeel and giggles and the boy keeps running, around the sofa, little feet moving too fast for themselves. Salvador just shakes his head lightly as Sadie starts after the boy, and while he keeps his ears and the corners of his eyes on the pair, his hands clean up the mess before he stands.

Sadie moves after the boy in a slow pace, keeping him just in front of her. However, she's within reach to grab him if needed. "Boy, you are soooo fast." The kin plays with the child.

When the child looks back, seeing Sadie right on top of him, he squeels, laughing, whole body shaking with startled mirth. "It is getting on bath time," comments Daddy-o softly now that things are put away.

Sadie giggles lightly and pounces playfully at the child. This is where the game is unfair. She's an athlete and he's still a kid. She moves to sweep him up in a large bear hug and swing him off his feet. Oh? Is Dad still there?

Yes, Dad's still there. Hmph! As he's scooped up, the boy squeels, tiny hands gripping Sadie's shoulders tightly. Salvador moves over, watching the scene in silence.

Sadie tickles the little boy in her arms and then makes a horse whinny as she starts to gallop towards the stairs. It is then that her blue eyes flit back to Salvador in question. Then she looks back to the boy. "Wait.. you are more on the front than the back." She leans in to rub her nose against the child's if he will let her. "We should be a kangaroo. They carry the joey in the front. So I'll be a KangaSadie and you can be the Adam." She starts to take jumping steps towards the stairs now.

Salvador actually half grins at the look, bringing one hand up to motion Sadie onward. To the jumping, Adam just laughs about it all, gripping Sadie with his legs to bounce himself up and down, not necessarily in time with her jumping steps.

Sadie laughs to that and manages to jump up the stairs, bouncing the child a bit more than what is actually going on. "One, two, who's a kangaroo? Three, four, let's hop off the floor. Five, six, we are hopping for kicks. Seven, eight, we don't want to wait. Nine, ten, let's do it all again." Leave it to the cheerleader to come up with a cheesy chant as they disappear upstairs.

Salvador does, in fact, do just that, leaving the wonderfully mozerella chant to the chant-queen, as he follows in silences, foot falls heavy. He heads toward the bathroom nearest to their room, and makes for the tub to start drawing the water.

Sadie follows Salvador into the bathroom and lifts Adam up like a plane. "Varoooom." She then looks towards the tub and then the father. "Hey.. soon you get to pretend to be a fish. They swim in water and get all clean." She spins the boy in a few circles before aiming him towards Sal's arms.

Salvador gets the water set and turns in time to 'catch' the boy. "King of the Sea, right here," he comments moving to settle him down to geth im undressed. "You don't have to help, you know," he continues, words for Sadie. "Though, thanks."

Sadie gasps as if taken aback. "Why wouldn't I want to hang out with my favorite friend? Besides then I have to get you a bath." She winks towards Adam, "Daddy has to bathe and get ready for bed too right?"

Adam just peers at Sadie as he puts his thumb in his mouth and reaches for this hair. Salvador's brown lift again. "Are you hoping to get me naked for some reason," he finally blurts out.

Sadie pauses to that and her cheeks flame red. "No!" Now she sounds like Adam previously. "I just.. kids respond to.. I.. I can go."

Salvador laughs at that, making Adam laugh around his thumb too. "No, it's okay," Salvador says as he drops to his rump and gets everything off the child.

Sadie hangs back and then hops up on the bathroom counter. Her legs cross at the ankle as she observes the night time ritual.

Salvador has this down to an art. In goes the child, and as he laughs and splashes and plays, Daddy stands and gets a towel ready and drops dirty clothes in the hamper. Not a word does he speak as the child plays, and he sits on the floor again to watch the boy, occassionally yelping faintly as the child splashes him with water. After about 15 minutes of good hard playing, Salvador gets to his knees and gives the child a good washing, head ears knees AND toes. The chatter starts up again, a soft running commentary of the nightly ritual. "Scrubba scrubba washing that baby's hair. And get those ears. Oh, bubbles on his nose. Can I have your hands? Where are thems toes?" A cup sitting near by dumps water on the toddler who laughs ans sputters each time, and when it's all over, Salvador helps the child climb out of the tub and into a big fluffy towel. "You wrap it up once. You wrap it up twice, and then you.. rub in ALL the spice! And that's how you make..." Salvador stands up, swooshing Adam about with him, smiling warmly. "...a baby-taco!"

Sadie grins to the interaction between the father and son. Her eyes shining happily to just be part of something she's forgotten. The Walker kin stays on the sidelines though as she lets them continue on with their evening.

Salvador makes his way tothe counter and plops the boy right next to Sadie. "scuse me Sadie," Salvador says. "Suzie Sassy," Adam says. "Time to brush your teeth," says Dad while getting the child's tooth brush ready to go. He hands the brush over to Adam and preps his own. The pair then brush teeth at each other, the toddler gnashing the brustles.

Sadie scoots her little hindquarters out of the way. She now feels a little sad that she doesn't have her own toothbrush. The kin watches though and her eyes reflect a strange sort of longing to them before she blinks it away.

When Salvador finishes his own teeth, he turns and takes the brush from Radames. "Okay, time for Dad to check your teeth," he says holding the brush up. Like a good boy, the child opens up and sits relatively still while Salvador scrubs away. "Now your tongue," and Radames sticks out his tongue as far as he can for Daddy to brush it too. When it's all done, the child slurps water from Daddy's hand noisy before sticking his tongue in his mouth and rubbing an eye with a hand. Salvador takes that minute to brush out the child's unruly hair, drying it as he goes before he scoops up the child into his arms. "Going to join us for bed too," he asks, grin coy.

Sadie hops off the counter, letting her skirt fall into place. "Of course I am! Let us to bed!" She announces in a feigned Romanesque voice. Her eyes study the two as she moves to follow the Father and Son.

Salvador just chuckles to himself as he leads the way to their shared bedroom. Once inside the room, he plops hte boy onto the bed and gets him into a fresh pull up and night shirt. He scrubs his hair once more then states, "Okay, find your blanket and I'll tell you a bedtime story." "Tori," the boy replies, getting down fromt he bed to find his blanket.

Sadie looks up at Salvador and asks innocently, "Do I get to cuddle in bed with you, too? As well, will you tell me a story?" There is a flutter of lashes before she looks towards Radames and then back towards Salvador.

Salvador chuckles at the 'innocent' question. "Sure," he replies. "Why the hell not?" Blanket in hand, the child retuns to the bed and climbs in happy to curl up.

Sadie gives a soft squeal and then jumps on the bed and cuddles in at one side. "Don't swear." There is a minor correction before she grins at the child.

"Yes, mummy-dearest," Salvador mock-coos in reply, moving to take off his over shirt so he can get in bed in his sweats and white muscle shirt. He climbs in as Radames finds a pillow and rubs his face on it.

Sadie blinks a moment at the stripping of the shirt and starts to look a bit nervous. Then she just lights up and snuggles around Radames as well. "No wire hangers either." Blue eyes flash with expectation towards him for a story.

Salvador's grin doesn't fade as he settles into the bed next to hs son, watching Sadie snuggle on the boy. He waits for the two to settle down a bit before he licks his lips, clears his throat and seems to think. "What story would you like, Adam," he asks, waiting for the boy to answer. "Mama," the child replies with a bounce, face smiling bright. His father's grin turns a touch bittersweet. "We heard that story last night. What about a different one tonight?" "Mama!" "No," Salvador replies, tension forming about his faces again. "Pick another." Radames frowns and throws himself onto the pillows and rubs his face back and forth.

Sadie lifts her brows towards the man as he denies talking about the boy's mother. She then looks towards the exit. Awkward. "Um.. if this is a personal story, I can go make sure everything is picked up down stairs."

Salvador just smiles faintly, shaking his head. "I told that story last night," he states simply. "I don't feel like telling it again so soon, really," comes the lie easily stated for all that it hides that he still doesn't want totalk openly about it all. "Maybe you can tell him a new story," he prompts.

Sadie looks rather horrified. She either sees through the lie, or she doesn't have a story. Sadie leans over and brushes her lips to the top of the boy's head. "I should go clean up a bit. Sleep well, Moppet." The Walker kin starts to slide from the bed.

Cue waterworks. Radames buries his face in the pillows and starts crying, which seems to be the last thing Salvador wanted to listen to, for he gets out of bed rather quickly, a frown on his face, and a cold growl to his voice. "You want to cry, go right ahead. Doesn't get you a fuckin' thing."

Sadie looks up at.. "Salvador." Wow, for a young Walker she can pull off that disappointed Mommy voice really well. Her eyes narrow on him as she attempts to curl around the boy a bit in a hug. She'll give him the distance if he doesn't want her though.

Hugs are always welcomed, and as Sadie curls up about him the child turns and clings to her, crying louder. Salvador growls faintly and moves to the window to press his forehead on the cool glass for a few moments and sort himself back out.

Sadie rubs her hands down the boy's back and speaks in comforting tones. One would think she's done this her whole life. "Little star lived in space with all the other stars and planets. Most stars were shiny and bright and made patterns in the sky, but try as he might, Little Star couldnt shine as brightly as the other stars. One night when the other stars were dancing around the moon Little Star set off to see his friend, Twinkle. Now Twinkle was a wishing star and could make Little Stars wish come true. He wanted to be the brightest star in the universe! But Little Star couldnt find Twinkle anywhere and he started to cry. Would he ever be as bright as the other stars?" Sadie launches into the story as she holds the child to her.

Radames's cries die down as he stops and listens intently to the story, tiny frame still shaking slightly now and again when he rubs his face against Sadie's shoulder. Even Salvador listens, head turning to look at her.

Sadie presses her lips to the top of Radames' head, in a maternal gesture. "Suddenly he heard a friendly voice calling out ,Little Star, Little Star grab hold of my tail and Ill take you for a ride! It was Corky the comet. Corky had a long silvery tail and was always rushing through space. Straight away Little Star leaped onto Corkys tail. It was time for an adventure! Where are we going? Little Star asked Corky. Were going to visit my old friend Mr. Sun, the biggest and brightest star of all. Little Star was so excited he nearly fell off Corkys tail. As Corky sped through space Little Star could feel the warm glow from Mr. Sun getting closer. Well fly once around Mr. Sun and then its back home for tea bellowed Corky. Little Star couldnt wait."

And neither could Radames, for he'd found his thumb and his body was starting to go slack. Salvador turned back to gaze out hte window, sighing softly.

Sadie watches Salvador over Radames' head as she figures she won't be caught. "As they got nearer Corky heard Little Star shout out ,Hello Mr. Sun. Mr. Sun slowly turned around to see who was there. Well if it isnt my old friend Corky and who have you brought along to see me today? he said with a warm and friendly voice. This said Corky, is my new friend Little Star. Its a pleasure to meet you Mr. Sun said Little Star. I wish I was big and bright like you. Mr. Sun chuckled to himself. It will be a long time before youre as big as me he said, But youll be much brighter sooner than you think he said, winking at Corky. Then Mr. Sun reached out his long shimmering arm and shook hands with Little Star, and as he let go a strange thing happened. Little Star felt all tingly inside, his eyes lit up and suddenly he started to glow brighter and brighter. Looks like Mr. Sun has cheered you up a bit, said Corky. Little Star gave Corky a big smile then turned around to wave goodbye to Mr. Sun. Thank you for making me bright and shiny, shouted Little Star. You always were, said Mr. Sun ,you just had to feel it inside. Then with a whoosh from Corkys tail they shot off through space and before Little Star knew it they were back home just in time for tea." Sadie finishes her story to the boy cuddled in against her.

When Sadie's story finished, Radames was completely asleep. "Thanks," Salvador said softly, turning to look. "This was nice, having an extra set of hands."

Sadie tucks the boy into the bed and sliiiiides slowly from the bed as well. She moves over towards Sal with a smile. "Anytime. I should probably let you get to sleep too though."

Salvador nods to that, pushing up from the window. "Probably," he repeats, fighting for a warm smile past the fatigue that plagues him. "It's nothing personal, ya know, I just... don't like talking about it yet," he tries.

Sadie nods her head. "Hey, it's not easy talking about someone you love that isn't here with you physically." She skips over to attempt a platonic hug with the man. "I missed family time, thanks for letting me share yours."

Salvador doesn't balk too hard at the hug, but doesn't move to return it. He merely nods, biting back any offers to let her come by again. She'll come by if she wants, he figures, even as the ever present worry of being told to pack it up sits at the bottom of his stomach.

Sadie reaches her hands out and attempts to lift his arms to encircle her. "See, when you hug someone Sal, you have to touch them. I know you don't want to touch me, but it helps with that hugging thing."

Salvador lets Sadie pull his arms up, and while it's a hug, it's not warm or affectionate. "It's not... nevermind. I'm going to sleep now."

Sadie lifts her brows to that. "It's not what?" She looks worried for a moment and then quickly pulls back from him. "I didn't mean to overstep. I was just being a friend. Or trying. I mean.. sorry."

Salvador shakes his head. "You're fine. I'm just a dickwad. You'll get over it. Thanks for helping with bedtime."

Sadie reaches out to slap his shoulder. "Language." Then she nods her head. "I don't think you are a.. a.. jerk." She smiles warmly and then turns to walk out.

Salvador just smirks and moves to curl up with his son. "Night, Sadie."
