This is from
Drawing in 3D by Mark Kistler. I love this book. Thank you,
everraven.
Started 7/9/09, finished sometime later. This was mostly a lunchtime sketch.
This drawing was a first for me. This is the first time I looked at a drawing and said, "This needs something, and that is *this*" and then proceeded to draw it in. The original in Drawing in 3D only has the toad and the lily pad. I know it's not much, but I added the grass in the background and the water. The water's plain, but it's there. I tried to make the grass look good. I shaded the pieces that were further back. It felt right to me to do that.
Seriously, this is the first drawing that inspired me to go beyond its original copy and expand it. I don't know if I can explain it well, but it's like I could see when I used to be blind. I have never had an image just pop into my mind like that.
