While you're enjoying your Lost season premiere, picture what it would have been like if ABC:
* summarily rejected the pilot movie, refused to air it at all, and required the producer, JJ Abrams, to write a new pilot setting up the premise of the show in less than an hour. (and oh, by the way, can you write it in two days?)
* constantly changed the timeslot of Lost, during its run,
* aired some episodes out of order, and others not at all.
* made very little effort to promote the show, or help it gain more audience
It's very nice that they:
* re-aired the pilot movie (at least once), for those of us who might have missed it
* aired "catching up on the plot" specials more than once (and again tonight)
* helped a little here and there with publicity, promotion, the usual stuff.
This is what SMART television networks do when they have a smartly written show with an unusual premise and complex plot. It's nice when networks support shows they've already paid for, and give them a fair chance to find their audiences. It warms my heart.
On a not entirely unrelated note, Serenity, the movie continuing the story of the cancelled FOX television series Firefly is out next Friday, September the 30th.
