New Beginnings Again

It seems like every few months, your GM is once again faced with the task of setting up a new game. Sometimes, the effort is worthwhile and the resulting game turns epic. This is often because the players bring a little extra to the table. Unfortunately, sometimes the mix of players, system and story just fail to mix properly, and this is clearest when the fusion reflects badly on some of the successful moments of the past. When my core of players consists of Bryan and Wren, I am always hopeful.

The first question is usually one of genre. Fantasy or superhero are usually reliable. I don't think I do science fiction very well, and the historical veins of pulp and Victoriana seem a bit esoteric.

The second question is usually one of system. I may be an old fogy, but I think I'd rather stick with something I am at least marginally comfortable running. I'm reluctant to take another shot at Champions yet, and the other available superhero systems have been rejected either for being too simple or for being locked into a game universe hated by one or more players.

I'll be doing a little more thinking on the subject after noon, but I felt like updating here.
