Foiled again!!
I planned on going down to Pittsburgh this Saturday to scope out the city, meet the postdoc I'd be working with, and importantly, look at apartments and nail one down for the summer. I am going with my friend Vicki who went to CMU for undergrad so I wouldnt be hopelessly lost. After I spent hours today making arrangements to look at like a dozen apartments, I go to orchestra rehersal only to find out our concert is not on Tuesday like I had been previously informed, but indeed on Saturday... THIS Saturday.
Damn it Damn it Damn it Damn it!!!!
I hate when things do not go according to plan! I already made so many arrangements, and Vicki cannot really go any other day except next Thursday, and I'm afraid a lot of the good apts will be snatched up by then. SO annoying. And there's no way I could miss the concert, unless I wanted to be crucified by the conductor.
Gah. So back to the drawing board. Maybe Thursday will work. If not, I'll go myself this Thurs or next Tues. So I'm gonna wait until she confirms her work schedule tomorrow and then make plans for that. Maybe it's just as well, I do have a huge presentation on Monday that I need to prepare for over the weekend.
I just feel bad that I have to cancel all the plans I made with people and be annoying and reschedule. Oh well. What are you gonna do?
In better news, I was told that my program would subsidize my apartment for the value of whatever it was they would have to pay for the dorms. I found out today that that is $52 a night x 60 nights = $3000! So, I have a budget of $1500 a month for rent!!!!!! Here I come, deluxe apartment in the sky! Wooo! :) Also, further affirmation dorms are a rip off.
If all goes according to plan, this might be my view from my private balcony where I will relax after a long day with a glass of wine.
