*claps hands*

Scott and I had an old painting that's been in his family forever appraised today at Bonham's and Butterfield's on Los Angeles (A large auction house)...

^_^

It's by a late 19th century American Painter by the name of Charles/Chaz Fredrick Ulrich. Untitled, but the guy at the auction house called it 'woman with flowers" *shrugs.*

We knew that it was in need of restoration and repair, and THAT'S why we got it appraised. I had talked to the Getty Center's painting department about restoration, and they said that if it was 1) proven to be an original and 2) a value based on that proof that they might- MIGHT consider it for free restoration in exchange for "display rights" (hanging it for about 5-10 years). I would still have to send them an official and proper request with the info from today's appraisal and they could still say "no." but, if worse comes to worse, I'm sure we could scrounge up the money for restoration based on the quotes below.

Good news and bad news:

Good news: It's an original

Bad news: It's in pretty bad shape, and in need of restoration.

Good news: he gave us the name of an excellent restorer.

Bad news: It will cost about $800 to restore.

Good news: Prior to restoration it's worth about $30,000-$50,000. (!!)

Bad news: We need to get it restored because:

Good news: after restoration it'll be worth about $50,000-$70,000.

This makes me so happy! I don't care about the cash, I care about the work. To think, I wonder if Good ol' Chaz ever thought his paintings would be worth that much or if people like Scott and I would be more interested in the beauty of it over the price... It gives me hope that I might be like him someday. Well, dead, but...you know...my work might be up for appraisal someday....I don't know...I guess it's a want to be appreciated...

Anyway, if you're interested, here's the painting.

And here's the appraisal.
