Once upon a time, there was a sea-dwelling troll named Feferi Peixes. Through either luck or divine fate, Feferi was born with tyrian purple blood, the most noble blood in Alternia’s hemospectrum. This blood color made her the heir apparent to the Alternian throne, and the next in line for the title of empress. This blood color also allowed her to be chosen by a rare and dangerous guardian (or lusus): Gl’bgolyb, the “Speaker of the Vast Glub.” A lusus’ job was to keep their young trolls safe from harm; in return, the troll would feed the lusus. Gl’bgolyb protected Feferi from any threats upon her life, most notably from Her Imperial Condescension, who would have taken out Feferi in order to keep her throne safe. But what did such a vast and powerful lusus eat?
Other trolls’ guardians, of course. Gl’bgolyb was only satisfied when fed other guardians.
Not much is known about Feferi’s past beyond this. At some point, she met another sea-dwelling troll, Eridan Ampora, who agreed to help her feed her lusus. But how she fed Gl’bgolyb before that is unknown; presumably, she killed the guardians herself. Eridan and Feferi’s relationship was bound to be complicated; Eridan was out to destroy all land dwelling trolls, while Feferi was interested in unifying both races peacefully. Neither could really let the other do what they wanted: in short, they became moirails, in charge of keeping track of the other troll’s misgivings.
Somewhere along the line, Feferi also met ten other young trolls through an online messaging client, Trollian. Eridan and Feferi were convinced to join in playing a game called Sgrub along with their online friends. This was a pretty...well, intense game. It pulled the trolls into different worlds, while their own world of Alternia was destroyed by a series of meteors. Feferi lost the people she was supposed to one day rule, though her lusus had forewarned her of the occasion. However, when Gl’bgolyb died, he released what was called The Vast Glub, a cry that killed every living troll left on Alternia. One of the other players of Sgrub, Sollux, was killed because of it; his server player had failed to get him into the game before his death.
After taking her place in the medium, in her own Land of Dew and Glass, Feferi talks to Eridan and tells him that their moirallegience is over. She is tired of doing all the work in their relationship, while getting nothing in return. Unfortunately, Eridan takes it hard; he confesses his feelings of love for Feferi, which she pretty much blows off. She has more important things to do, like go save Sollux. After passing through her first gate with a mere jump up to it, she lands in Sollux’s world and administers what’s considered a universal for waking up dream selves: a kiss. After waking up, Sollux and Feferi begin to have adventures in The Land of Brains and Fire. Eridan finds out about their tag-teaming and fights with Sollux, though no one knows the outcome as of yet (but it’s safe to assume that the fight was probably over Feferi).
The trolls eventually won their session of Sgrub. But when their leader, Karkat, was about to open the door to their new universe, a bigger enemy appeared out of nowhere. Feferi and her friends hid from this enemy -- later identified as Bec Noir -- in a series of asteroids called The Veil. While there, they began trolling the kids on earth, all in various ways. Feferi had a particular interest in Jade Harley. When both Feferi and Jade’s dreamselves died, Feferi created a dream bubble for them, provided by the horrorterrors. Unfortunately, Jade saw through the illusion and freaked out, which quickly ended the dream. Feferi tried to make contact with the girl, but Jade was quick to tell her off.

The first thing to notice about Feferi is her enthusiasm for just about everything. Whether it’s gossiping or talking with horrorterrors, she is most always cheerful, and rarely ever angry. She’s always excited about one thing or another. This optimism is one of her main traits, and the reader almost never sees a different side of Feferi than the cheery and excited one. She spends a lot of her time redefining the meaning of ‘culling’ in troll society, taking it to mean caring for those who are weaker than she. Feferi ‘culls’ a species called cuttlefish in a rather pointless display of roleplaying, placing them in cages and giving them care. She does the same for aquatic hoofbeasts, though minus the cages; Feferi just seems to like keeping an insane number of pets around for her personal enjoyment.
Sometimes Feferi comes off as just a little bit eerie; of course, this is most likely due to the lusus that raised her. Having been in conversations with Alternia’s most frightening monster since she was very small, nothing scares her. While Karkat and Jade are terrified of the horrorterrors that live in the furthest ring, Feferi thinks that they’re not really that bad, and even communicates with them. She even gets them to agree to provide dream bubbles for her and her friends, showing she’s not only unafraid but also willing to communicate with them.
While she doesn’t enjoy it, Feferi wouldn’t hesitate to kill a lusus to feed Gl’bgolyb. It is presumed that she did so before she met Eridan, though no one really knows how long it was after they emerged from the brooding caverns that the two met. She isn’t ignorant of fighting skills; Sollux and Feferi partner up and take on massive enemies while in the Land of Brains and Fire. She is deadly with her 2x3dent, but would rather kill only out of necessity, not because it’s fun. Feferi never participated in FLARP, because she hated the thought of killing someone else for the fun of it. She is capable of murder, sure, but it doesn’t mean she enjoys it. Feferi has even mentioned that she thinks she is too young to really experience any intense feelings of hatred for another troll; she is simply too nice to even think about it.
Unlike other noble-blooded trolls, Feferi refuses to think of herself as better than land dwellers, or even those who are the lowest on the blood hemospectrum. She often butts heads with Eridan over this subject, always getting annoyed when he talks of destroying all land dwellers. She was told by her lusus that one day she would unite the two troll races, though because of the destruction of the earth it seems like a moot point now. Still, Feferi doesn’t judge anyone based on blood color. Her supposed matesprit, Sollux, has yellow blood, one of the lowest bloods. Feferi doesn’t even seem to take this into account. She refuses to put anyone above another, although as a princess she very well could get away with it.

Feferi is extremely strong; she doesn’t need to build up to her first gate in the Land of Dew and Glass. Instead, she just jumps straight out of the fishbowl, into the gate. She also tows an entire whale for her lusus to feed on at one point. It’s not just physical strength, either; she has the patience of a saint, putting up with Eridan and his overdramatic nature for many sweeps. She’s not entirely tolerant, though. Feferi is quick to tell Eridan when he’s being a little too hammy, and finally decides to stop being his moirail because he was so high-maintenance.
Optimism tends to be Feferi’s downfall; she doesn’t assume that Eridan will take things the wrong way, but of course he does. Though this sort of optimism leads to downfalls. Feferi also isn’t able to comprehend why Jade might not be so thrilled about her dead dream self. She automatically assumes people will be just as excited as she is, and is let down when they aren't.
