Player Information

General
Canon Source: Homestuck
Canon Format: Webcomic
Character's Name: Eridan Ampora
Character's Age: 6 sweeps (approximately 13 years)
Conditional: From the second he was placed within the brooding caves as a grub, Eridan had to fight to survive. Like most trolls, he mostly raised himself, despite the presence of a lusus-which is an animal guardian, since trolls do not have parental figures. Unlike most other trolls who lived alongside their lusus or were afraid of theirs, Eridan went about dominating and training his own lusus so he could ride it. At a young age Eridan single-handedly started plotting mass genocide (though his attempts at it were not as sincere as they could have been) and went about killing the lusus' of multiple other trolls, on a regular basis. He's pretty fit to live alone and take care of himself.

What form will your character's NV take? He has a computer fused with his glasses that he's canonly used to communicate (which is fairly common practise in Homestuck), so he'll have that.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Being a sea dweller, Eridan has the ability to breathe under water. How exactly this is possible is not clear, because the readers have never seen gills or anything besides his facial-fins, but there is meant to be a difference between the sea and land dwellers that allows them to reside underwater. It should be noted that his blood is purple, which is different from most, though it may not be an ability. For trolls, that indicates noble blood of a literal sense, since red and orange-bloods are viewed as peasants, and class gets higher as the colours of the rainbow reach purple. Like other trolls, he is nocturnal.

He was given the title Prince of Hope by the game Sgrub, though the ways he can use 'hope' are largely unclear. It seems more like a title that he flaunts uselessly, though it has some sort of (currently unknown) purpose, as all titles do.

Eridan has assigned a strife specibus of riflekind, meaning he is able to fight with rifles. He's got Ahab's Crosshairs, which is a powerful rifle that he acquired during a session of extreme roleplaying. He presumably also has wandkind, since he can fight with the wand another troll made for him (and due to the game-like nature of Homestuck's universe without assigning a -kind to the specibus, he wouldn't be able to use wands). He'd been in possession of wands before the start of Sgrub, making them a weapon he's probably had available to him all along.

Those who have played Sgrub all have something called a dream self, Eridan is no exception. They are something most easily thought of as a body that can be controlled when the person is asleep and dreaming. Whether or not Eridan ever took control of his dream self is unclear, but he will no longer expect to, as his dream self is dead.

People in Homestuck have a hammerspace inventory system called a "sylladex", and Eridan is no exception. The sylladex takes items and puts them onto cards that the characters keep instead of holding the actual item. The joke of the series is that characters don't actually know how to pick anything up with their hands, only put them in their sylladex.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? n/a. In the event of his abilities not being recognised as super-human, his powers of "hope" will become more realised by him, since it's technically already a part of him anyway.
Weapons: Ahab's Crosshairs, and a wand.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Eridan was born as the result of ectobiology (essentially making him a test-tube grub-grub, not baby, as trolls are insect themed), instead of being hatched from the mother grub. He was sent from the laboratory he was born into, to the trolls planet, Alternia. He got a lusus, a skyhorse, and found himself a home by the sea. As a sea-troll, he might have once had an underwater dwelling, but Eridan decided to take residence on an island where there was a shipwrecked boat.

This might have been because he took an interest in his ancestor, Dualscar, who had a ship of his own. Eridan began FLARPing (which like human LARP-ing, though it is a lot more extreme and violent) with other trolls, making Dualscar his character when he did. Ahab's Crosshairs was the earnings of one of his FLARPs, though most of his sessions just ended up with dead trolls and lusus', that he then fed to Feferi's lusus, who would have killed everyone if ever she went hungry. He had larger-scale plans to kill, plotting mass genocide of all land-dwelling trolls (despite his home being on land), though all his attempts at it flopped. Mostly he had doomsday devices built for him, no-good as they were.

Eridan had some romantic endeavours (further covered below), though those were dropped by the other party by the start of him playing Sgrub.

Within the game of Sgrub, Eridan had his own planet, as all players do. He lived on the land of Wrath and Angels, and he spent the greater portion of his month playing the game simply fighting off the angels instead of joining the rest of the trolls in trying to win the game. The angels, for the record, hadn't even been designed to be Eridan's enemy, but he saw it fit to fight them, and they retaliated. After the end of the game, when everyone's life was threatened by a character called Jack Noir, Eridan decided that all hope was gone from their situation. He sought to join Jack as a final effort to save his life, and when he was opposed, he wound up killing some characters, before storming off to fight and presumably kill some more.

(As a side: here is his homestuck!wiki page, for some elaboration of his history.)

Point in Canon: Post-hopeasploding.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: n/a

Character Personality:
Eridan was born into royalty, which on their world doesn't mean having royal family so much as them having blood that is literally royal. He is a purple-blood, a highblood, which makes him high enough in society that he was born a sea dweller. With his position in life came a huge ego, overbearing nature, and a belief that he is better than most everyone, those who live on land especially. Eridan constantly talks down to people, even his friends, not seeming to care much if he says something hurtful or thoughtless. It's a wonder he manages to keep friends at all, when he goes spewing things like ordinarily id call bullshit on terrible stinkin bs like that but i knoww you don't really lie about stuff unless its to yourself. It's not the worst of things he's said, but it's hardly a nice way for a friend to say I believe you.

Like most trolls, he's got a very specific way of typing/speaking, where his w's and v's are doubled (making them more 'wavy', thus sort of resembling the Aquarius symbol that he wears on his chest), words that end in '-ing' lose their g, and words like 'of/an' are replaced with a. Sometimes, he makes nautically-themed puns, though from his point in the timeline, Feferi has o-fish-ally banned him from doing so (he didn't listen). Eridan addresses most everyone with a shortened version of their name, like calling Karkat Kar or Feferi Fef. He avoids punctuation and tends to be vulgar when he talks, constantly interjecting the word fuck and many forms of it, though he doesn't drop the f-bomb the most out of any of the trolls. His cursing, atrocious manners, and overall behaviour go against how a highblood such as himself is typically expected to act (which is mostly cruel and composed), but Eridan doesn't necessarily care about that. He seems pretty meh about a lot of things, and that is why he is the hipster character of Homestuck. Well, that and his clothes; Eridan's attire has a lot to do with his hipster image. It wouldn't be wrong at all to call him a giant tool, and he has been called as much before.

Eridan is incredibly thick-headed, and often seems downright stupid. He's so convinced that he's better than everyone else that he doesn't care to listen to other people, no matter how right they are. For a large portion of his time playing Sgrub, he took to killing the angels that were located on his planet despite that being a Really Dumb Idea. He'd been told multiple times that they weren't who he was supposed to target, because they didn't even dispense any prize for killing them, but nothing could drag him from that planet, refusing to leave because no one was agreeing to pick up the angel-killing duty while he was out. It wasn't until he was challenged for a duel by Sollux that he finally left the planet, and that was to go fight a team member instead of really working as a part of the team. Another idea of his that was Really Dumb was his plan to join Jack - not fight him, but join him and just hope that his life gets spared by doing so. He'd decided that this was the thing to do by announcing that as the Prince of Hope he had come to realise that their situation was hopeless, and thought this was the proper way to get out of it.

There are a lot of things Eridan says that don't make sense, or come off as contradictory. For example, he will continually make it clear that he doesn't believe in magic, but he's asked Rose about magic despite that. Eridan even eventually acquired and wielded a wand as his main weapon, but insists on saying that he is using "wwhite science" instead of magic.

Despite being pretty up there on his high-seahorse, Eridan has many, many insecurities and personality points that go against his usual confidence. He's prone to whining, likely to grouse about how he was just so lonely and no one understands or seems to care. At first, he doesn't like to go into complaining, but will hint at it like mad until the other person tells him to confess what's wrong, and then there is no closing the dam. It's all very dramatic and pathetic, but he's very needlessly dramatic-which is to be expected, probably, because he does wear a cape.

Even with all his faults, Eridan would like to think that he is a pretty tough dude who is capable of all kinds of things, like genocide. He'd love to be genocidal, and has all sorts of plans for destroying everyone who isn't a sea dweller, despite living above-water most of the time, and making friends that live on land. People believe that he won't actually kill his friends, and he even tells Kanaya that he wouldn't very well kill her (and yet he has, from his current point in his timeline), though he's been saying all along that in order to understand how to better kill them he's got to friend a few. The eventual casualties of his friends, he'd thought, were something inevitable that he'd just learn to live with. Part of Eridan's interest in genocide comes from his fascination with military history and conquerors . He's modelled himself after people he's read about (like Dualscar), using them as inspiration even when all of his doomsday devices have failed him.

One of the problems that people have with Eridan, because they usually tend to disregard his urge to kill things (since it isn't that unheard of in troll society, anyway), is that he is a relationship pusher. He solicits his fellow trolls in many other quadrants, and is known for making advances that are always somewhat awkward or reading into feelings where there aren't any. He started out the series in an actual relationship, having a moirallegience with Feferi, but it eventually broke off because she could no longer deal with his relationshit. He confessed his flushed feelings for her and was turned down, just as he was turned down when he confessed flushed feelings for Nepeta and Jade - he clearly didn't even think much of Nepeta, calling her the 'kittycat shipper girl' even while discussing how upset he was over the rejection of his advances. He used to have a thing with Vriska that was closer to being in the black quadrant, which ended because she was bored of him. They spent most of their time indulging in their mutual interest of extreme roleplaying, acquiring weapons and treasure, and killing people and lusii for their independent needs. In a way, it was one of his more functional relationships, because he was not hiding other feelings for her like he'd done when he was pale with Feferi. He had unrequited caliginous feelings for Sollux and Rose, which is why Eridan had actually left his angel-killing duties to battle Solllux.

As for actual friendships, Eridan hasn't maintained many, and those he does have are rocky at best. After Feferi and Eridan broke up, she wanted to remain friends with him, but they spent a great bit of time arguing, Feferi believing that Eridan wanted her to get back into a quadrant with him - even if it was as a mediator between him and Sollux. He used to talk to Kanaya about his problems with Vriska, and while he acted like they were friends, he was constantly rude to her, talking about how she was the village bicycle for the ashen quadrant. He also talked to Karkat about his relationship problems, though he never really listened to Karkat when he didn't need advice from him. He made jokes, acting like they were best pals even when Karkat was freaking out at him for killing Kanaya and Feferi. Eridan thinks the two of them have a pact of sorts, which is probably why he didn't kill Karkat despite him being present at the time that he finally acted upon his urges to blind everyone with science (though in truth, he only blinded Sollux with science; Kanaya and Feferi just got holes through their chests).

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: n/a
Character Plans:
Eridan will, as ever, push relationships and flirt when it's not appropriate to do so. Due to his distaste for anyone who isn't like him, there will probably be a great amount of time spent starting fights and giving people reasons to have a poor opinion of him. As he's nocturnal, he might also start seeking out monsters to fight, which will at least be more productive. I think he'll be finding himself driven to align with SERO once he looks into it enough, as he's really all for their end-game objectives (not to mention, he's got more than one moral screw loose already).

Appearance/PB: Here. He has arms, I swear.

There was something incredibly pleasing about doing something incredibly stupid. Of course, Eridan didn't see it as such, but few others would dispute the stupidity behind going out to hunt whatever haunted the night seemingly only because he could. Thankfully, he wasn't (and had never been) too keen on listening to anyone besides himself. He had his reasons, and that was enough for him.

Admittedly, he was sure that people should have been grateful for him taking his frustrations out on monsters in place of, say, buildings that weren't rightfully his. Or humans (and other similarly sentient lifeforms).

And frustrated he was. The situation he was in, in Siren's Port, might have been none too pleasant, but it wasn't anything like the imminent danger he'd experienced when Jack Noir was out on his hunt to kill the last of the trolls. There had been a panic, a rush to stay alive in a situation that he'd been certain was entirely without hope. Here, he'd time to sit, and time to think, on what it was he'd done right before arriving in the port. Killing Feferi was never in his grand plan. Kanaya hadn't been part of it either, but with her being a land dweller, he could reason that she would have gone eventually anyway despite his multiple reassurances otherwise.

Feferi and himself, however, had been the last of the aquatic trolls. It was his kind that he'd intended to save all along.

There was nothing that could be done about it, and he'd found quickly that sitting around to glub about it wasn't going to help him settle his mixed feelings (as often as he might have done it, privately, whenever he was reminded of her). So he slept through the day, went out and shot bloody holes in as many things as he could at night, and only came back when he was too tired to think about anything besides how he hurt all over, or how his rings needed shining. It was enough like being back on the Land of Wrath and Angels (a time before he destroyed his flushcrush his friend Feferi things), where he'd been obsessing so much over killing the winged heavenspawn to focus on anything besides that, to help ease what should have been troubling him from his mind.

Never let it be said that Eridan Ampora deals with things properly.
