Has anybody seen "The Money Pit"?

You know, Tom Hanks, Shelley Long - '80s movie.? here you go

Well i haven't seen all of it, but that is what my husband says our house is. You see, our real estate agent (a family friend) in an attempt to save us time and money, talked us out of getting an inspection.

The first thing we had to do when we moved in was replace outlets because they were all two prong, not three prong. upon doing this we discovered that the house isn't grounded. at all.

next when dave went to hook the dryer up the wiring to the dryer was no longer conected to the breaker box so he had to reconnect it. in the next few months we would discover that the heat pump outside was only wired for the air conditioning part, not the heat pump part. besides that, the breaker that had been the dryer's is what they used
to wire the ac, so it's either the ac or the dryer... and the thermostat they put in here is the cheapest of the cheap, and we have to have a certain type of thermostat to even have the heat pump kick on. (if it were even wired correctly that is...)

if there were gaps in ANYTHING, they filled it with caulk, i kid you not.

so on to the most recent disaster. we bought a new shower head friday, a spiffy one with two heads. one stationary and one on a wand. dave was installing it and hears a *crack*. the pipe coming out if the wall that the shower head attaches to was made out of PLASTIC and had broken off at the threads inside the pipe in the wall! it appeared it have been glued (or caulked) into place.

so we went to lowe's got a small saw, a pipe wrench and a new elbow pipe. we got home and the elbow wouldn't turn, but the pipe it was attached to did, down by the tub... long story slightly shorter, we cut part of the wall out, got a new pipe and temporarily attached a piece of plexi-glass over the hole so we could shower saturday night...

(we also removed the shower doors from the tub, the frame of which was held onto the walls with about 4 screws total (including the ones that were supposed to hold the top to the frame, which was instead held to the wall with, you guessed it, caulk.)

Dave's step dad came over sunday, bringing sheetrock to patch the holey wall. apparently there were places with upto 3-4inch gaps in the sheetrock, where they had previously redone the wall.. with non waterproof sheetrock. we ended up taking the sleeves of the walls and discovering mold, black mold, all around the tub. even some of the 2x4's were rotted.

it was almost 2am before they finished everything in there. oh, and i forgot to mention that the only thing nadia wanted all day was to go into the bathroom and/or to see her daddy &/or grandpa. anytime she fell asleep they would need to saw or drill something, and if we shut the door or put up a gate type thing she would absolutely lose it and start bawling.

wow, this is long...i just needed to get it out there.. i'm sure dave has things to add, or say "no, this is what happened." and that's ok...

husband, nadia, house, etc
