So Glowclue Number One is that I eat a plant-based diet for compassionate reasons.
It's great that being vegan is also good for the environment, my health, sustainability, combating world hunger, and the economy (and my foodie palate). But those are happy bring-alongs because I don't want to contribute to violence and animal cruelty.
And as I see things, there is no such thing as humanely killing an animal unless it is a non-human animal in one's care who is ill or injured and not going to get better. At that point it would be inhumane to let the being suffer.
Also, notice I've avoided the "V" word here (vegan). That's because saying one is vegan is like saying one is American--you still don't know very much about the person until you've had some deeper conversations about it. And that's why I say I eat a plant-based diet; people are more likely to ask me about it than jump to the conclusions that often come with the "V" word. Such as the "preachy vegan" stereotype.
So yeah, my veganism is about compassion for other living creatures and an abhorrence of cruelty and violence.
