Roy's first dream takes place in a large hall, filled with small tables and chairs. A white silken cloth had been draped over each one, and the hall itself was clearly expensive, embedded with golden floral patterns glinting against the classically painted ceiling. The people attending were obviously upper class, wearing their finest gowns and suits and their most expensive sets of jewelery. It was a standard event, and most, if not all, of the military had attended.
Roy always hated these functions, though he made a point of showing up. He could act civilized and adult enough to be put on the map and leave when he'd had enough; it was just polite to make an effort, and make an effort he did. He wore a sharp tuxedo with white gloves covering his hands, and his hair was smoothed back out of his face as a quick but not quite successful attempt at taming it. In Roy's opinion, the best thing about these gatherings were the open bars dotted around the large venue. That, at least, gave him reason enough to endure mindless small talk with a pleasant attitude. It also scored him some points with the Lieutenant, but he obviously wasn't thinking about that.
At this particular moment, Roy was leaning up against the bar behind him, his back straight and his expression fixed into a well-mannered smile. He spoke smoothly to a woman that happened to be on his arm, his charming replies well timed and effectively sweeping her off of her feet. He ordered her a drink or two, and just as he was about to finish his second joke, Hughes wandered up and snaked an arm around his shoulders. Roy faltered, his eyes slowly turning to peer at the man beside him.
"Yo! You gonna marry this one?" As soon as he spoke, Roy deadpanned and the woman he was with gave out a nervous giggle. "Ah... it's a little soon to tell," he said stiffly, attempting to pry Hughes off of him.
Hawkeye's appearance, although stunning in her simple skirt and blouse, was the one to make his latest target flee the scene.
"You won't marry her, sir." She said bluntly, and Roy face planted.
It was just his luck to be stuck with the two biggest cockblocks of the military.

Roy awoke with a small, wry smile. He remembered that moment very well indeed.
