A street exploded, a tornado hit Brooklyn, and the Subway and train systems basically melted down twice... two subway lines ran this morning and by the time I left work at 6:30 I had to go inbound in order to go outbound

Marta did some boots-on-the-ground recon this afternoon:
"Ok, I just got back.....and I think it's pretty bad. The basement was completely flooded and they got all the water out already but it's basically a mess. The back room is the worst; the roof collapsed and the water got everywhere. They lost about half of their food supply and they're not sure if the rest of it is ok; it hasn't been checked yet. Some of the dogs have been moved already but there's still about 6 and then all of the cats." If anyone can take in (or knows someone who can take in) an animal or two, you help will be greatly appreciated. Marta & I also discussed the possibility of setting up a Saturday morning work crew to help clean up. Anyone interested in helping on Saturday morning, please email me back.
I just spoke to Alesha (the project coordinator at NY Cares) - she just got off the phone with Boris. They are trying to find permanent homes for all of the animals and are not taking any more surrenders until their situation improves. If you can adopt a pet or know someone who can, please call the shelter directly at the number above.
Tornado was in Brooklyn, so I'm fine cause I live in Queens (Northward) there was one death related to the storm, but not to the tornado. We are expecting another bad storm early morning.
