New experiments pending

I made chili last night for date night with Dannie. I used a recipe I made once that was the best chili I'd ever made in my life, but with one major change: I didn't use Ro-Tel canned chilis and tomatoes because I had heard that the canned tomatoes leech poison out of the cans. Instead, I used fresh Roma tomatoes and canned green chilis by themselves. The result was a very bland and almost flavorless chili, in spite of all the onion, garlic, peppers, salt, cumin and paprika, and in spite of using Blackened Voodoo stout for the stock.

Needless to say, this was a confusing turn of events. However, I got to work today and started eating some chips with my favorite garlic and cilantro salsa, and had an idea: instead of cans of Ro-Tel, I could use jars of salsa.

So: for the next few pots of chili, I will be experimenting with different salsa mixes to replace the Ro-Tel.
