This is the song that should have been grouped in the #5 slot with Elvis, the Eagles, and Judy Garland, but to my mind, this one stands head and shoulders above those. It's just a little more primal, a little more at the roots of the longing for someone special. Her voice sounds like she's singing from the heart, but almost crying at the same time. When you hear someone sing this song well, you just want to hug them in a way only rivaled by Judy Garland singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas when she gets to the line that goes "Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow."
I used this song in a novel I wrote once, and the scene involves a boy alone at Christmas belting this out at the top of his lungs to the stars in a cloudless sky, singing to his love millions of lightyears away. There is no other song for such a scene.
