There are things to do when you lost your pet. First of all, look for it, what else, and make sure you’ve looked EVERYWHERE. Distribute flyers with contents like the cutest pic you had of your pet with texts like “Missing Cat/Dog, if found call this number asap”, report to the nearest animal cops and of course call everyone you know and weep on the phone about how you love your pet so much. Ok, maybe not reporting to the nearest animal cops, Do Kyungsoo did that when he arrived home and realized his cat is nowhere to be found after he called it out for a few times. We’re talking about the priceless Birman breed cat he just bought a few months ago as his companion (he literally spazzed back at the pet store when he saw that fellow), he named it Muffin. Unfortunately Muffin the pure breed with exceptionally high price is being MIA. Kyungsoo freaked out and so the first person to know it is his roommate a.k.a. the lazy freshman, Oh Sehun.

“Ok, hyung calm down. Have you check the old lady’s house? She’s obsessed with cats maybe she grew fond of Marfin.”

“Muffin.” Kyungsoo consistently corrected him between his weeps.

“Yes, Muffin, I said that. Now where’s the last time did you see him?”

“He was eating his breakfast this morning in the kitchen, he was being such a nice boy, purring and twisting around my legs. God, I missed him already!” the elder broke into yet another dramatic scene of crying.

Kyungsoo is too sad to imagine how the younger could’ve been rolling his eyes at the moment across the line. He’s too lifeless to care about this stuff. Sehun promised him that the first thing he would do as soon as he got home is helping him to create flyers. Kyungsoo calmed down and took a deep breath before he called Chanyeol, another victim of his dramatic loss that day. The latter is still doing his part time job and Kyungsoo couldn’t care less. The man lost his cat, it’s his somewhat special sad day.

“Calm down, have you called Sehun? He said he was going back to your house when he left his reports behind, maybe he saw your cat back then.”

“What?”

“Yeah, shortly after you dropped him to the café, he said ‘Crap, my reports!’ and he freaking ran out of the place and took the first bus stopping by. Oh, and tell him that he hasn’t pay for the hot chocolate.”

“Ugh. I just called him before I call you and he’s all accusing our friendly old lady neighbor while calling my Muffin with the wrong name!”

“Your what?”

“My Muffin. My cat, I named him Muffin, Chanyeol.”

“Oh. I see. I thought you’re buying muffins all this time I didn’t think it was your cat, so his name is Muffin? Aw how cute.”

“Oh my god.”

Somehow the duo turned up in Kyungsoo’s living room. Kyungsoo was busy sorting out the cute pictures of Muffin and contemplated whether he should use the one when its lying down or the one with its head turning back judgingly.

“I think it’s definitely the one where he’s lying down. It’s cuter.” Sehun burst out while eating his chips.

“No no no, I think we should choose the one where he sits straight, clearly shown so that people could recognize Muffin easier and faster.” Chanyeol argued from below both of them, he’s sitting on the carpet and busy changing the TV channels.

“Chanyeol’s right. If I want to find him sooner then I’ll have to put on the clearest picture of Muffin in the flyers.”

“Uh huh.”

The next morning Kyungsoo skipped his job and so did Chanyeol, and Sehun is forced to skipped his morning lecture, the youngest didn’t seem to be happy about it but the thing Chanyeol said about him never being diligent made him think and finally agreed to join the two of them distributing flyers of MIA Muffin around the neighborhood. Kyungsoo is passionately stamping the flyers on the wall, the trees, putting them into the neighbors’ mailboxes. He also called out for it a few times, putting his hopes up a little bit too high.
When they paused for a short break, he was found crying while munching the fresh, warm taco.

“Are you going to finish that?” Sehun asked, which eventually replied by an elbow to his stomach by Chanyeol.

The sun is getting hotter and Sehun being a complicated brat he is, finally gave up and took a sit on the grass at the front yard of a random neighbor three blocks away. Kyungsoo is so persistent this time he came knocking. A guy approximately the same age as Sehun came out, with a skin slightly tanned, and something about his eyes made him look like he just woke up from a very long sleep, and the elder heard a woman’s voice echoed inside his house-probably his mom asking who’s on the door.

“A neighbor, mom! Hi, can I help you?” the neighbor slash stranger asked politely, seriously Kyungsoo thought he had never seen him before. Kyungsoo is like the most adored, friendliest, guy next door in the neighborhood, it’s impossible for him to not know who is the young guy right there.

“Hello? Sir?”

Oh, it looks like he’s been staring at him for too long. “Uh, yes. I… um. I was looking for my cat. Yeah, it ran away… or sort of, I don’t know. Anyway, here’s the flyer, if you see him you can call me right away.”

The taller guy took the flyer and read it carefully before he gave him an assuring smile, Kyungsoo is confident that somehow his Muffin will return safely to his front door.

“Ok, I’ll try my best.”

“Thank you very much.”

“You’re welcome, have a good day ahead!” the door slammed gently in front of him and Kyungsoo turned around with his eyes widening slowly.

“Wow he’s hot.” Sehun shouted out his mind.

“Should we distribute more flyers?” Chanyeol didn’t seem to take notice of the younger’s comment.

“Wait a minute. Wait a minute.” Kyungsoo stopped everyone, actually looked like he’s talking to himself. He sat across Sehun and trapped in a five minutes session of thinking.

“What, what is it?”

“How did he know I’m his neighbor? I’ve never even met him before.”

-

Three days went by without Kyungsoo noticing it and really, it’s the hardest time in his life. He couldn’t go a day without thinking about Muffin and he always caught off guard by his playful slash annoying co-worker, Luhan. That guy purposely printed lots of Birman breed cat’s pictures and handed it over to Kyungsoo’s desk, the younger kept weeping and weeping.
That night when he came home, sad, stressed, but well dressed, Kyungsoo jumped to the couch and sighed for long, long enough until Sehun barged in from the front door and confronted his pathetic figure.

“Hyung you look so devastating.”

“Thank you, Sehunah I’ve never been better.”

“No, seriously. You know what, I think this searching is going nowhere, tomorrow I’m going to save lots of cat pictures in your computer so that you can get over Miffy.” He said while pointing at the elder repeatedly, the other hand free and taking milk out from the fridge.

“Muffin.”

“Muffin, yes. I said that.”

“No you didn-” the phone cut him off and Kyungsoo planted his big, full of revenge eyes towards the younger who’s running away to his room as he picked it up.

“Hello? Is this Do Kyungsoo?” the male voice greeted immediately from across.

“Yes that’s me. If it’s not about the cat then can you talk to my super irritating roommate, Oh Sehun?”

“No no no, this IS about the cat. Your cat, in the flyer, names Muffin right? I found it.”

“oH MY GOD!!!” Kyungsoo is off his seat and running around the room jumping and headbanging-he was kinda into rock in high school-and ran around again and barged into Sehun’s room.

“Somebody called!!! Muffin is going to come back!”

“Wow, finally! Great for you then, you can stop being sulky and pathetic!”
That’s not really the best time to kick Sehun in the ass but Kyungsoo smiled anyway, the caller is desperately trying to get him back on the line and he finally snapped out from the euphoria. “Oh, yeah, ok. Thank you so much! Could you come over immediately? I missed him so much!”

“Yeah, no problem!”

Kyungsoo being all squishy and eyes shut tight called Chanyeol over, if it was his special sad day a few days ago, then now it’s his special night. Muffin is finally returning to his side and he could really use the Birman breed pictures which Luhan printed this morning to be rubbed against his ridiculous face. Really, if that man was to buy a cat, Kyungsoo would suggest him to buy a sphynx. Because he hates sphynx, the ugly, furless, unhappy cat. The total contrast of his fur ball, fat and squishy Birman cat. Honestly he picked it because he thought it somehow resembles him and the way they just clicked to each other at the pet store were all Kyungsoo needs to know that him and the cat are meant to be friends.
The bell rang and Kyungsoo jumped off the couch, the duo followed him shortly behind, all anticipating. Even Sehun. Kyungsoo could hear ‘meow’ from outside and he snapped the door open with twinkling eyes.

“Muffin!!!”

The cat ran inside and purred below his feet just like its used to, Kyungsoo picked it up, nuzzled his nose onto its face before he saw the person who carried it over, only to found the guy he had seen before three blocks away from his house. The one who has sleepy eyes and that attractive tanned skin. Sehun whistled from the back and carried Muffin away.

“Hey, Sehunah, what are you doing, Muffin is longing for Kyungsoo-” Chanyeol started and Sehun shushed him up, leaving both standing at the door.

“Again, thank you very much, and I totally didn’t see this coming! I guess you did trying hard.” Kyungsoo smiled sheepishly and bite his lower lips out of embarrassment. “You could use some money as the reward!” he started digging his wallet for a couple bucks but the younger stopped him.

“Nah, you don’t need to. The kitty passed by days later at my yard. So… I guess I wasn’t really trying hard.”

“Ah, is that so? Then it’s so lucky of me and Muffin!”

“Yeah.” The guy chuckled and scratched the back of his neck which Kyungsoo found really really attractive, he’s squealing deep inside and wished this guy wouldn’t do anything cute anymore.

“So… I’ll be going now.”

“Yeah. Thanks again!!”

“No problem.”

Kyungsoo shut the door and turned around squealing like a teenage girl, moving his legs and arms altogether, the duo are sitting on the couch giving him the look and stroking the spoiled, just-returned Muffin.

“You like him.” Sehun stated.

“What? No, yes, I mean in a friendly way, I mean, he’s my neighbor of course I like him, I like everybody in this neighborhood including you guys.”

“You see, when he’s nervous and lying he would talk really fast and said that line altogether, ‘What? No, yes.’ what is that even mean?” Sehun explained to the nodding Chanyeol, still with their we-knew-everything stares.

“He’ll call you. Definitely.”

“Why are you so sure, Sehunah?”

“Because I am. I am sure. Let’s just wait and see, you should come regularly so that you will not miss anything about their love shew, hyung.”

“What the hell, guys. Chanyeol, are you going to stay the night? I’m going to cook for three if you are.” Kyungsoo dismissed the reveries out of his head and tried to look as normal as he could be.

-

One fine afternoon when the leaves started falling onto the ground, Kyungsoo drove home from the pet saloon, Muffin is squeaky clean and smelled like strawberry. He can’t wait to play with his dearest cat later. It’s been a week since that neighbor brought him home and Sehun said he’ll definitely call him but really, he didn’t. Kyungsoo didn’t want to feel disappointed but, yes, he’s kinda disappointed. The fate is too nice he firstly thought it will end up like those dramas Sehun likes to watch.

A guy and his dog is strolling down the sidewalk and Kyungsoo couldn’t help but noticing that the guy is that ‘guy’ who returned Muffin home, he’s kinda upset for not asking his name that night. He kept calling him with ‘that guy’. He slowed down and opened the window to greet the other.

“Enjoying pre-autumn?”

The guy seemed to be startled for a few seconds but then realized it was someone he noticed and Kyungsoo swore he’s kind of happy to see him again, “Do not put your hopes up again, Do Kyungsoo.”

“Oh, hi there!” he bowed down to adjust the eye level of them both and smiled brightly, Kyungsoo thought it’s the sun’s effect but not really.

“Would you join me for a cup of coffee? It’s kinda cold anyway.” Kyungsoo silently cursed himself for being such a first move ostentatious and put on a smile he thought is irresistible when he did it in front of the mirror.

The guy contemplated for a few seconds but then agreed to take the invitation.

By the time they got out from the café, Kyungsoo learned that the guy’s name is Jongin and that he’s such a hardcore dog person, he didn’t like cats personally but didn’t hate them either. It’s just so-so. He told him that his sisters are cat people just like Kyungsoo and made him laugh a several times, so yeah, the conclusion is, Jongin is a fun man. Who simply enjoys his life with a golden retriever dog. Unlike Sehun, he’s a more diligent freshman. Kyungsoo likes it, the diligent, hard working guy. It just made him more attractive than he already is. The elder decided to follow him to the park where he took his dog for another stroll, and somewhere between the sound of whispering leaves and kids laughing while running around, Jongin turned his face away and start confessing.

“You know what, I felt terrible because I’ve lied to you.”

“What?” Kyungsoo is startled by the confession, especially out of the blue like that. Lied? About what?

“Well you see, the thing about your cat. It’s not MIA, it’s not running away, it was playing on your yard.” He stopped for a chuckle, checking on Kyungsoo’s expression which seemed to be freaking out minute by minute, “I was passing by your blocks and saw your cat jumping around on the grass, your friend-”

“Which one?” Kyungsoo is determined to know whether Sehun was clumsy enough to let Muffin out without anyone’s supervision.

“The tall one who’s having problem with expressing emotions.”

“I knew it!!!”

Jongin laughed and continued again after Kyungsoo stared back at him with his big eyes, “So, your cat was crossing the road and a car was going to pass by so I took it away. I figured that time why didn’t I just took him away completely for awhile, maybe you’ll spread out flyers with your number and then after that maybe I could return your cat and have your number at the same time, so that…”

“So that…?”

“So that I could ask you out for a few dates like this? Although technically this was your idea. I was really happy when you asked me for a cup of coffee.”

Jongin sheepishly looked up at the elder who seemed like his eyeballs would pop up soon, his jaws opened up so wide and although he realized that his cheeks were already pink, it’s blushing more than the usual.

“Let’s just say that I’ve been crushing at you for awhile, explaining why I told my mom you’re the neighbor and I know that must’ve been so creepy because we’ve never even met before, right.” Jongin is being so casual about all this, confused about what he has to do about the starstruck guy besides him.

“Let’s just say that I’m okay with all of this and simply being too awkward and bashful to function right now.” Kyungsoo finally answered.

Jongin laughed until his eyes turned into crescent shaped and stopped to look at the elder eyes, “So, coffee at tomorrow afternoon’s fine?”

“Fine,” Kyungsoo snorted out of shame, he felt like a teenager again and it’s gross to feel so because he’s just awkward like that.
