You know how much I *love* this, right? It is my new FAVORITE thing.
Bucky thought of the tracer he'd found on his belt buckle, just an hour after he'd last left Fury. Thought, too, of the shield on his arm, Steve's shield. Totems and fetishes that made their own magic: You belong to me.
I can't even say anything about this line, I am so in love with it.
He rested the blade perpendicular to Fury's throat. A little more pressure, and the skin would part softer than fruit. Blood could run, welling before it arced.
The star on his arm was insurance against that instinct.
The almost soft description of something terrible, and then a staccato sentence putting it in its place-- gorgeous.
His thumb curved into the white hair on Nick's temple, his fingers clutching at the darker hairs further back. At night, blood on snow looks just like this, glitters of darkness, stars in absence.
OH, GAH.
And Nick drinking highballs!

I'm especially glad the totems/fetishes wasn't too alien to the rest, because I couldn't cut it. I tried! And I failed.
Nick HAD to drink highballs. It was a moral imperative, much like Buck's new armshield, really.

Honestly, it was the moment in "Gunsels" when he squirrels away a lock of Jason's hair that got me thinking around this.
Fury : Bucky :: Jameson : Ginger Ale.
They taste best together, yes. (And Bucky : Cap :: Ginger Ale : Scoop of double-churned vanilla?)
