After three and a half weeks, last night I finally slept in my own bed, with my own pillow (and two human-shaped lumps who were too happy to see me to sleep in their own bed

we never figured out what the right word was for that in theater I'm all for Opening Night. Or maybe Re-opening Night since it was the second time. In Spanish: Reestreno.
About the job, I'm pretty sure you'd get used to the city, but I don't know if the stress would be worth it. Also, you would definitely have to rent your appt in PV, if only to use the money to pay your own rent in the city until you can buy something. And there's the air fare thing too.
Dunno, there are too many things to consider in so little time. I think you have to consider if this opportunity is really huge enough to outstrip things like leaving your kids behind, renting your appt, having to deal with Mexico City's public transport on a daily basis, being more rushed, etc. If you feel this job would really forward your career then you should give it a try and see how it goes. If you feel that there might be something even better waiting out there, then maybe you should wait until the kids are a little older and don't need you around so much, so you wouldn't have to be travelling back and forth so often. And you'd have time to look for a place to live here and all, maybe even buy something. Agh, it's a tough decision! I really wish I could help you more with it, but I can't think of anything useful to say/do :( The final word will have to be yours.
After so many adventures, you definitely know more about the city than me now. I've never been to Indios Verdes, you know.
having to deal with Mexico City's public transport on a daily basis,
I'd have a company car, so ... I guess I'd have to learn to drive like a mad woman? Gah! Not sure that makes it any easier.
Salary's not horrible, it's 22 K a month. The question is whether that is enough to live in Mexico City... and I don't know that. I've been looking at places to rent online and a furnished one-bedroom is about 3800 ... which may be a lot or about right, I just don't know. I wish someone could help me decide.
22K is not so bad. You can live decently, if not sumptuously. That's around what I myself earn, actually, 'cept you would not have to isolate yourself for months at a time, plus I assume you would get benefits?
That one-bedroom doesn't sound bad. Rent varies a lot depending on the area. You might get something bigger for that same rent but the zone would not be very nice and the apt might be older and less well kept. What zone is that apt you found?
Dealing with public transport and dealing with everyday traffic amount for almost the same kind of stress I think. But it's true that it's easier to move around by car, so that would be a huge plus.
I'd definitely get benefits, and I guess I wouldn't be isolated - but the job does entail sitting in front of the computer all day. That's a big shift from what I have been doing since forever, which is working with people. The apartment I found is within reasonable distance (or Google Maps' definition thereof ) from the office. I've been looking at things near Insurgentes. I'm told Coyoacán is also convenient and I saw an ad for a place that, given the directions and my alleged knowledge of Mexico City, must be really close to where you live.
The car would come in handy because we wouldn't need to deal with weird/lazy/clueless cab drivers when we want to go to the theater or the movies or whatever, you know? But then again, it means that whatever housing arrangements I made need to include a parking spot.
