[ History ] :
(Brown @ Megami Tensei Wiki)
Brown’s history wasn’t revealed much throughout the game, though a particular incident had forced himself to turn his personality and appearance to 180 degrees. He seems to be your archetypical class-clown by around the time of the canon, albeit with some issues and insecurities he kept well hidden to everyone.

There’s no excuse that Brown was the one responsible how they got into that mess in the first place. It all started with a simple bet by playing the children’s game ‘Persona’, and the loser would treat the winner to an all-you-can-eat at a local diner in town. Simple enough. What no one expected was that, to those who never played the game ‘Persona’ before, was struck by lightning. However, he was fortunate ones as he had played the game before. Not wanting to take any responsibility, while the others were still unconscious in the infirmary, Brown left school and decided to fool around on his own.

Unlike Yukino and the others, who were later asked to go to the hospital and visit one of their friend, Maki, Brown would later return to school soon enough that the town was suddenly infested by demons. It seemed like school was safe from all those demons, right? Right?

Too bad the Snow Queen happened.

After beating the Snow Queen, they went investigating the mysterious SEBEC building and found the man behind the incident was none other than Kandori Takahisa, who had use the Deva System to alter reality. However, they were soon pulled to another dimension. Eventually, after a chase between worlds and the final face-off against Kandori, they learn the real truth behind the dimension.

To save Maki and to restore Mikage, they head back to the fake version of the town and head to the darkest part of Maki’s subconscious. After defeating Pandora, the town was restored and they successfully returned.

[ Personality ] :
Brown is... for better words, full of himself. Scratch that, he’s egoistical, a self-proclaimed hero and claim the deeds he barely do. Yeah, unless you have the patience, it’s probably best to say Brown’s ego would grate anyone within an hour, “I’m a hero and the leader after all, hide behind me and I’ll save you all, mwuahahaha!” and before you know it he’s the one hiding behind you. But even after the battle’s over, he would claim he helped the fight. Yep, all talk, no action and claim all the glory despite his previous cowardice.

He’s pretty much a clown, he enjoys poking fun on a lot of things. Just as it’s hard to take Brown seriously, he can’t take everything around him seriously. Unless shit hit the fan hard, he would very much joke about things and obnoxiously laugh about it, as if he doesn’t give a care whatsoever. As it goes, it’s pretty hard to get Brown serious unless the situation is absolutely dire or certain subjects were touched. When that happens, he completely drops his attitude. Especially considering him being rather dense at people’s feelings, it would really take quite something to get him serious.

So yeah, Brown’s not humble and heroic nor is he serious and focused. He just seems like a thickheaded, egocentric dick-head.

Well, ‘seems’.

Underneath all that ego and old man jokes, Brown’s insecure about himself. To some it may take them until their family gets killed or them getting caught in an accident to get so traumatized, but for Brown it was the sheer harassment he went through that made him weave the mask he wore. It may seem not much to most, but it left a pretty big wound for the guy. Despite appearing rather a happy-go-lucky idiot, he’s rather awkward on the inside, often unsure if others consider him as a friend or not. It can be said, he never really gotten over those bitter memories, if someone replayed the incident, he would likely to freeze from fear. Though presumably, he had recently gotten a better handle of his past issues.

Despite being a contradiction on how he can be oblivious to people’s feelings, Brown’s pretty good at reading the room’s atmosphere. which is why keeps acting like an idiot even with the demon invasion thing went through. He’s probably well aware that they all couldn’t be in such a serious mood and that it would stress them, so he kept acting like a clown to lighten up the mood. Anything just to make the situation not-so tense and stress out his friends.

Quite a lot of Brown’s actions are due to him craving for positive attention. Sure, he steps on people’s toes all the time, accidental or not, but at least they weren’t playing a bad prank on him. He would absolutely do anything to be liked among his peers. Yeah, this mean he’s pretty much desperate and this whole ‘fake’ personality was unhealthy, but it does have a positive effect! To those he care about, he would try to help them in any way he could and he would cherish them all dearly. It can be said he’s rather ‘timid’, not in the way of your typical person who’d shy away. But more like of his occasional uncertainty and insecurities, how much he’s afraid on what’s around him, and how he had cling on others. For most part, he does try to hide these feelings away, but the curtain tends to get pulled away especially during the whole ‘demon invasion’.

Brown represents the Justice arcana, while that arcana in particular represent lawfulness and order, which doesn’t necessarily fit his personality much, he does fit the arcana in an odd perspective. Justice depicts a woman with a scale and a sword, the scale to determine the suspects past actions and the sword to cut their past wrongdoings. While Brown doesn’t fit much to Justice’s key elements, he particularly does something similar to the depiction of the scale and sword in both of the game’s route. The main route had him to himself, to ‘cut’ his past and to give balance to the scale, he comforted the real Maki and admit his past problems, Snow Queen Quest on the other hand does this to Michiko, her ‘punishment’ towards Toro and Tsutomu had pissed off Brown, considering the fact they don’t have done anything wrong to begin with.

The whole incident with Kandori had changed Brown in someways, for good or bad is however up to judgement. He’s still the same at some points, acting like a total clown and being dense about other people’s feelings. But, doesn’t fake it more, while he was no superman or great hero, he had gain actual courage and confidence within the incident. He wasn’t lying to himself anymore.
