Aside from the fact that I'm internally falling to pieces, I did make a great amount of progress today.

Dear Brenny,

Hope your birthday was splendid!

Today for the first time, in about two years, I feel like I made progress anywhere. I have been a recent recipient of a grant from the McKenna foundation, which grants money to New Paltz theatre department students, to train in the Alexander Technique.

The work was going fine and dandy, until I hit a brick wall with an exorbitant amount of tension in my quads. It just wouldn't go away, and if I was performing, my legs would tremble terribly. It was a horrible sensation.

Today, through diligence, my teacher and I attempted to release the tension. No luck. Then, in a last attempt, she did some fancy footwork and gripped onto my right quad, the one which I was having so much trouble with. Then she let go and commanded, "WALK!" Which I did. I couldn't stand up straight, I took five or six steps and fell flat on my face.

I write this to you, because when I was your student, I wish I had accepted the fact that it was okay to fall flat on your face.

By the way, I am reading William Esper's book on acting right now, and I find it extremely accessible, and recommend it for anyone studying the meisner technique.

ALL MY LOVE,
Miles
