Meeting the in-laws

Jul 30, 2007 19:53

We spent most of the day yesterday on Lake Dillon (Denver's mountain drinking water reservoir) putting around in a big pontoon boat. Neil and I, Martha and family, Jeremy and his SO Julia, and Julia's dad and youngest sister (both of whom we'd met before) and her mom, who was new to us.

It was a gorgeous day. Blue sky, warm, a perfect day for boating. We cooked lunch on the gas grill provided on the boat and talked about a variety of things in a getting-to-know-you mode.
Quinn was on his best behavior for a change) and it was so relaxing. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed being on the water. We had a boat in RI which we used often for recreation and getting to gorgeous isolated beaches as well as fishing.

After we went ashore, we went over to Keystone ski area for an art show. There was so much going on in the area this weekend, we could have spent two or three days and not seen it all. Frisco had a Corvette rally with over 800 cars showing up (many passed us on higway.) There was a guitar concert at Copper Mt. and a couple of things at Vail, too.

The downside was the horrendous traffic down to Denver, stop and go for miles. We ended up getting off the highway for a local access road and were moving at least 3x the speed of the I-70 traffic. We stopped for dinner at the Buffalo Bar in Idaho Springs and by the time we were through traffic had thinned considerably.

It was a lovely day.
