AHHHH SO MANYYYY

because this is the closest you will ever get and all you can do is pretend.

it's all just water anyway.

It doesn't mean a thing that you spend the rest of the day conversing over multiple cups of coffee and six hours, firing questions and frowns and half-smiles back and forth like bullets on a battlefield.

There's something about being in an empty apartment that makes you feel like you're choking.

you're content to stand at arms length, to exchange smiles with him and talk about meaningless things like the weather and the best restaurants in town and which of you is paying for what, because as much as you wish you could go home, he's your home now.

And he tells you he isn't. He likes to remind you every chance he gets that he's the superior one, he should be the favorite, not you, he could be where you are right now, further, if he tried - and that's another time that you think he might just be human underneath. It's such a petty human emotion, envy, really, (but of course you'd never say it to his face, even if whatever kicks and punches he throws at you have ceased to hurt by now), it's only wanting what someone else has, what he doesn't have, and what's more human than that?

They've gotten very good at lying to eachother - and even better at lying to themselves.

It's a testament to how messed up this whole thing is that he counts it as a bigger victory when he can make him frown than when he makes him smile.
