Feedback poll! And Spartan whinery.

Have you ever received feedback for a fanwork (fic, art, icon, wallpaper, etc) that you've posted on LJ?
Ask your friends to take this poll! Inquiring minds (aka my mind) needs to know this stuff...for no reason.

YET ANOTHER POLL ABOUT FEEDBACK! )

Arrr I started a reply to you at school but then I left without finishingf der!

Anyway, the gist was that I think it's neat that you don't mind the crossover of concrit from school to online. A lot of art students/workers I know prefer no concrit on fanwork stuff, cause they're like "I get it enough at my school/work stuff!" I think now that I'm going to school for arty stuff, I feel the same way you do. Concrit is always good, yum yum. XD

I confess that I've only read the Sin City books, Daredevil and DKR, and my general dislike of Miller is less about his work and more about his, uh, personality. Argh, this is why I don't like to know about celebrity's personalities! I tend to have a bias if they do/say something that I find personally offensive. Der.

That said, I really liked the way Rodriguez did Sin City (possibly having a lot to do with that fact that I love Rodriguez...a bias the other way? ahaha), but Sin City isn't all sacred to me. Thermopylae is. Maybe I was a Spartan in one of my past lives, because there really is no real reason I should be so protective of this one long long long ago battle, ehehe!

that the graphic cinematography for arts' sake won't overwhelm the power of the film as a whole.

VERY good point!*mwah* I'll try and think positive. I'm both looking forward to and dreading it at the same time, y'know?

I think that's why my main online gallery community is Art Attack, not Deviant Art. On A.A. the members are -artists- and in order to join you need a portfolio and what not. The point of the community is really the critiquing aspect. On Dev.Art it's more like... here's my Gallery! Ain't it pretty?

I could never separate fan art from stuff I do in class. For me Fan art is just a mode of illustration, no matter what. It's still creative expression. Especially since I tend not to do so much of it ( perhaps that's why I haven't become so distant from it as a work that -actually- too effort from me). That's why even when I put up my portfolio, the illustrations I did for potter which I think are -good- will be in it.

By the way, a creative block is horrifyingly paralysing. I lost the ability to be creative for a while. I couldn't even pick up a pencil without feeling like crap. I hope I never go through that again.

With regards to Sin City. I liked it... went to see it opening night even. I tend to love most things which are beautiful ( it's my weak point). And Sin City was a visually gorgeous film. However, I've made it a point not to delve too deeply into the artists behind the graphic novels I love. I love Miller's art... Gaiman's words, Van Gogh's flair... but that doesn't have anything to do with how I view them. I found that sometimes you need to separate the artist and the work, if only to give you the freedom to explore things of beauty.
