An update on the laptop situation: I guess even 24-hour support people need to go home for the holidays so I'll be remaining in stasis for the foreseeable future. Um, since the current work PC is only slightly younger than I am, I'd really appreciate links to your posts and recs. My friends page doesn't bear thinking about. ^^; Speaking of, welcome ( Read more... )

I am so sorry for taking such a horribly long time to comment! It is just that your stories demand time, quiet enjoyment, and careful consideration of how I express my joy.

Grocery shopping for Irie Shouichi is harrowing and thankless; he’ll rummage through your plastic bags with both arms and an afterthought: “Do you want to come in?”
I can just see this. *grin*

I like your descriptions of Shouichi the best, like this one:

He envies Shouichi’s poise, the unoffended way he takes his meals, cross-legged on the floor with a crate turned makeshift desk, and his unnerving tolerance of Gokudera’s morning investigations, the surprised shape of his body, cut-off yawn and socks with dead elastic that sit loosely around his ankles.
I like seeing him as a person.

He fixes their coffeemaker, doesn’t complain unless they bring him skim instead of soy and manages to provoke Tsuna into feeling guilty and uncouth without doing very much at all.
The subtle guilt trip! *giggles* They must have had a fascinating relationship, ten years into the future.
Sometimes, when his mind’s descended into a dozy jungle, he thinks about consulting himself, the older, deader version, but he can’t even imagine the frame of his face. Would he look like Dad?
I liked this. I can imagine the glimpses of the future he's seen casting some shadow on Tsuna, however faint.

Tsuna’s busy being distracted by the wistful expression on Shouichi’s face.
*grin* I know this is meant to be Spanner/Shouichi, but oddly I can read this just as easily as TYL!Shouichi/TYL!Tsuna, depending on who that wistful expression is directed at. I can imagine, if it's Spanner, though, how Shouichi misses the people who understand him.
it’s all a roundabout, Spanner-styled plea.
I liked this.
Shouichi brushes past Kusakabe and sticks his head in the fridge.
And this! *grin* I liked the sense this story gave of Shouichi as a living, breathing, messy twenty-four year old. All that ice-cold Millefiore exterior sometimes makes one forget that there's an occasionally cranky, probably pretty fussy human being in there. For all we've seen of Shouichi, we don't have a true idea of his real personality (especially after the recent revelations, because then we become aware that we're not really sure what was real) - and I like this story for showing us the Shouichi underneath the spy.

No apologies; you know you're worth the wait. ♥

I really did have a gen piece in mind when I started writing this; even the wistfulness was more Shouichi showing he's not a robot who veers from stoic to mildly irritated. As always, my dynamics are questionable. *laughs* Once I got into it, the Shouichi/Spanner, Spanner/Tsuna and Shouichi/Tsuna vibes were hitting me up. I'm not sure I managed to weed them out.

...OT3 anyone?

And now that we're getting that Varia Arc we've wanted for so long, I just want to see more of Shou when he's not fronting/spazzing out. What can I say, I'm hard to please. *grin* I'm also oddly in the mood for 10051, with Shou caught out languid and rocking to his Blood Peppers/old-school metal. How much does Byakuran really know? And so on.

...there's an occasionally cranky, probably pretty fussy human being in there.
THIS.

We also have progress on the laptop front! The technician promised to call sometime today or tomorrow to confirm our appointment. *beams*
