Yeah, I'm Sharing

A lot of music recs go flying around on my f-list, which always makes me very happy. I try to check 'em out as often as I can. This time, I'm going to try and share one with you, via You Tube. It's my favorite Michael Martin Murphey song in the entire world, and it always brings back really happy memories for me. (My film teacher from high school is a musical genius and he used to play this for me in film class. We worked hard, but we also got to goof off from time to time, especially when he'd bring his guitar.)

I've never been much of a Paul Schaffer fan, speaking of goofing off. I always thought Schaffer was too silly for me to consider him a serious musician, even though he co-wrote another of my favorite songs, "It's Raining Men." I know he's Belzer's BFF, but to me he was just too dumbed down by his Letterman gig -- that is, until I discovered this vid and saw him truly playing instead of being a sidekick.

Now, not only is his playing damned near perfect, especially for the music as a whole, but I swear it looks like he's sight-reading it. This was an after-show online special gig, because MMM did "Wildfire" for his song on broadcast TV. So, think about it -- there wasn't much rehearsal time, even if they did arrange earlier in the day to do this one. You have a new musician on almost every night, so there's not much time to memorize anything. It made me realize just how supremely talented Schaffer really is. He's not the goof I thought he was, by any means.

And Tony Trischka is no slouch!
