Earthquake!

Nov 04, 2004 15:37

I woke up at 3:30am this morning to my bed shaking and everything on my shelves rattling. My first earthquake!! It scared the crap out of me, even though it was a small one. My first thought was, "Bush must have won the election and the world is coming to an end." My second thought was, "I want my mommy!" Are you still supposed to think that at 28 years old?? So I called my mom (luckily it was 12:30pm in Iowa) and one of the first things she told me was that Bush had won the election. I realized quickly that the world was not coming to an end (yet - we'll see what happens in the next 4 years, though). I was wide awake so I turned on the TV and happened to catch Kerry's concession speech live. Finally got back to sleep around 4:45am. At school today one of the teachers told me we have 3-4 small earthquakes a year in this area of Japan. Evidently it's one of the areas with the least amount of earthquakes (phew). They've even built an atomic power plant in the prefecture north of where I live based on how few earthquakes happen there. Hmm...I'm not sure which one is worse - the possibility of large earthquakes or living near an atomic power plant. :o
