One Rest Day

May 28, 2012 23:59

Yesterday's rest day proved to be enough for me. I got back on the bike this afternoon, after reading and sunning in the back yard most of the morning, and met Courtney for what turned into a 20 mile rambling ride.

I'm happy to report that there's more bike path in Seattle than there was last summer. It's now possible to ride under the Fremont Bridge on the south end most of the way to Ballard or downtown without having to ride on sketchy bridges, and with very little time spent on roads shared with cars. And of course, new pavement is one of the great blessings a cyclist can get.

Like Independence Day, you won't find Seattle breweries open on Memorial Day. Courtney and I peddled around all of Ballard and most of Fremont before settling on the George and Dragon Pub. That's the place Justin's always talking about going to watch football and it was populated mostly by authentic British people. I had fish and chips with peas AND beans (the bartender told me it was "an English thing" when I looked perplexed at her asking if I wanted either peas of beans). My advice? Get the peas and beans. There's no extra charge, and you get peas AND beans. It's awesome!

Came home, skipped some rope, did some crunches, skipped some more rope, did some pushups, then skipped a bit more rope. Showered and finally went out to do laundry. One clear indicator that laundry time is long overdue is when my entire stockpile of bicycle clothing is exhausted and all I have is a reeking hamper.

Came home to watch Hatfields & McCoys, the new miniseries on the History Channel, accompanied by pierogies and lima beans. Back to work tomorrow, but not until 2pm, followed by another two days off. I'm tempted to stay up watching movies or TV shows, but I'm also fading fast so I may hit the sack and have time tomorrow morning before work to get some things accomplished. Hopefully the sun will stick around.
