I've been away for a month and not writing has left me feeling a bit unhinged. Work is as bad or worse than ever and not improving. I had a month long unlimited membership at a boxing gym. I started playing darts and bought my own set. I think the darts part is the only thing there I haven't already written about repeatedly. So things are status quo, but neither interesting nor particularly good. Just grinding away.
Today I wore one of my Manny Pacquiao t-shirts to work. What does that have to do with anything, you ask? Why do I even mention it? It's notable because I can't recall the last time I wore it. When that awareness came upon me, I began to ponder my laundering habits and the very strange cycles they follow.
When I work a show shift I wear one of two outfits: all black or a button down shirt with a tie. There's almost no variation from that. When I don't work a show it's very casual in the office, usually jeans and a t-shirt. I haven't worn the Pacquiao shirt in ages because I've been working so many shows. Five of my shifts in April were regular office days. Only five, that is. That might explain why I've been feeling so completely burned out.
During the month of unlimited boxing classes, I was soiling clothes constantly. I had to do laundry weekly, but it was almost entirely sweaty gym clothes as the cause. Reducing gym sessions meant fewer loads of laundry. When a Broadway show is in the theater, I wear a different shirt and tie for each show I run. I usually wear different pants too. For a normal concert or similar show, I wear all black. I always wear those pants at least twice, sometimes three times before I consider them used up.
Therefore, if I have a Broadway run and also try to go to the gym or go out running several times during that week (extremely unlikely), I end up using twice as much clothing. I don't know how interesting that is, if at all, but it's a thoughtful self observation (humorlessly told).
I'm glad to be back in the writer's seat. It already feels therapeutic and makes me feel like things are a bit more manageable. This coincides with Bike to Work Month that began today. Summer is bound to arrive and although I'm better conditioned than ever, I still need some time to get my bike legs back. It won't take long.
