Tuna Noodle

Staying up watching Die Hard might not have been the best choice to get me through a tedious office day. Then again, most office days are that, especially when the month of shows ahead leaves me so indifferent. In general, Erin worked on all the YGG mess while I did everything else that came through. We’ll continue those lines tomorrow and hopefully make it through Friday and Saturday with minimal scathing.

Trying to branch out from our standard espresso favorite, Steven and I went to Bauhaus on our break today. It’s among the nearest coffee shops to work and we’ve been there before, but today may have been our first espresso experience. It was just average, like so many others. Although it’s a decent place to people-watch, the hipster vibe can be a little much and neither the coffee nor espresso is exceptional. We will keep it in the rotating roster, but like everywhere else, it’s not even close to the same league as Broadcast and the extra two blocks are almost always worth the investment.

I came home from work to immediately go grocery shopping and restock the larder. I’ve been so accustomed to being poor for so long that even when there might be better choices. I can’t help but fall back on cheap eats. It had been a while since I made tuna noodle casserole but that sounded like just the thing to eat tonight. I dressed it up with capers, Parmesan and cheddar cheese, a bit of curry powder, and peas and carrots. When you prepare it that way, and with pasta shapes that aren’t egg noodles, it’s a very different dish and seems less mundane that a can of soup, a can of tuna, and a bag of noodles. Oh, and it becomes a three meal investment.

Barry came back from baseball spring training in Arizona tonight and I picked him up from downtown where he had taken the train from the airport. I took him home to Shoreline and the knuckle guards he had ordered for me with his boxing gear were there waiting. I accepted those as trade for the ride home. His gloves remain back ordered.
