America is so cold. And I'm not just refering to the weather (although temperatures meausring -1º including wind chill definately doesn't help matters at this point).
I can't stand it. Everywhere I go people are so locked into their personsl groups and are so afraid to venture out of them. And then when you try to actually enter one that you "don't belong to" they stare at you like you're insane. That is, once the inicial shock of the *gasp* obsurd idea of someone you don't know actually talking to you subsides.
I can't stand the way people greet eachother in this country, either. For pete's sake, people. When you see someone, especially someone you know well, a head nod isn't appreciated and a "how's it goin'?" with no intention of actually listening to the answer is just plain annoying. I can't seem to break my habit of kissing people when you meet them too, which, by the way, I think is perfectly acceptable and definately prefered to a brief handshake that keeps two people nearly two armspans apart. Come one, people, physical contact with someone is not evil, nor anywhere close. Americans again stare at me like I'm some kind of lunatic when I go in for the kiss on first encounter. I've been holding myself back lately for thier benefit, but I still don't understand it or agree with it.
I miss Mexico. It was just plain warmer there. Mexicans just have so little hesitation to introduce themselves to new people and they are definately more open and friendly to those that they know as well, but more importantly, those whom they have never met. Americans are just so cold.
