I suppose I could be accused of apathy in this topic. But I want to make a point about that. I do not believe apathy is a very big problem in our generation. In fact, there are too many things for any person to be passionate about. And that is the problem. A person is told to be passionate about something, but once they find that, they ignore everything else. Take the sierra club, or animal rights activists, or myself and environmental issues. I work very hard to educate myself on many topics. I can tell you about alternative energy, or invasive plants, or poverty, or farm subsidies, or animal shelter issues. But the one event I do a year to raise money for cancer is a far cry from knowing about that issue.

We are exposed to so many topics, and ignorant of so many more, that it seems a relief to focus in on just a couple. And then it upsets others when you don't care about their issue of choice. I think the problem is in trying to rank one cause about another. Certainly, there is a lack in respect for your fellow human beings. That lack is seen by all the ignorance and cavalier attitudes.

It may be too much an issue of pride for me that I try to learn about more diverse causes all the time. I want to be informed. I think most people should be. But the problem with that is it lessons the amount of passion I have for any one thing.

I do not know the answer, other than to do my best as I sail this life.
