wow... this is why we got stuck in 4 hours of traffic on our way back from PA last night... i was wondering why there were cop cars & ambulances everywhere..

we were near those exits, RIGHT around that time too..

I cannot believe how close of a call this is, that we were only a few minutes behind these severe accidents, and that a matter of leaving even the slightest bit early might have been fatal... Makes me feel spoiled about complaining that I had to pee :/

One person died and several were injured in a multivehicle crash on Route 80 East in Roxbury last night, State Police said.

The incident involved a tractor-trailer, which overturned at 7:50 p.m. near mile marker 28 and spilled steel beams across the highway, according State Police spokesman Sgt. Julian Castellanos. A 15-passenger commuter van veered off the highway, tumbling down a steep embankment to land in the eastbound lanes of Route 46

The sergeant said passengers on the commuter van appeared to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but one of four occupants in a car on Route 80 was ejected and died.

Castellanos could not immediately provide details of the crash or identify the person who was killed.

All lanes of Route 46 were shut down in the area where the van plunged. All three eastbound lanes of Route 80 also were blocked, the sergeant said.

Around the same time last night, a one-vehicle crash involving a commuter van on Route 80 West shut down the right lane and right shoulder near exit 27A. Castellanos could not immediately provide details on that accident.
