Writer's Block: Cute Meet
My grandmother has a friend who's like 84, and the other week I went to the market and this woman was having a chat (a bloody long one) and she was telling me about the war and about one of her boyfriends she had then.
She, basically, in WW2 fell in love with an American soldier (she's English and lived on the south coast, I think). He asked her to marry him and all that, and she thought she was going to marry him and go and live in America. But after a while he was called back to war and he promised he'd be back. But while he was away he sent her a package of presents; perfume, lots of make-up and stuff, which was hard to comeby because of the port blockades and stuff.
And he told her he couldn't come back :(
I was nearly in tears at the market with her story. But she got married years later to this lovely man (and he was lovely).
Twas cute.
